287
Anyone have information on 287 north from Amarillo to Denver? Wondering if I should cut over to I-25 instead of taking 287 all the way.

I think maybe I've posted on this before, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I always go to Dumas from Amarillo, then over to Dalhart, then to Texline and across a corner of New Mexico to Raton where I pick up I-25. Don't have the highway numbers at hand, but I know the route like the back of my hand since I make that trip several times a year.
Raton pass is "easy" so I enjoy taking this route. The only time I was ever up 287 all the way was as a passenger in a ski tour bus (and that was years ago), so I really don't know about it as a driver.

David, Guess I was too locked in to the entire 287 route instead of your way which I see is much easier. Thanks much,
Mike

Google maps shows the Raton route to be 10 miles farther, but slightly faster.
We drive the 287/87 route thru Raton every year, but only up as far as Walsenburg.

This past spring/summer we picked up 50 out of Pueblo, having stayed in Colorado Springs, over to 287 and followed it to Amarillo. (Oasis RV Park) It was a nice ride. No problems encountered, then.
Err, what time of year. Could be snow.
