Have been in Casa Grande, AZ. for almost 4 months now and have NOT had the converter turned on yet. We use two panels and 4 - 6 volt batteries to run the furance. Battery drops off by 2 PM.

I say in the Mojave Desert area dirt riding through the winter. Two batteries will last a couple of days with the heater keeping the DW warm. We do run the gen a coup;e of hour every couple of day to top of the batteries.

Judy, just wondering if anyone has taken any pictures of the group as they are set up in the circle. That would be such a good time. Is the campfire in the big middle? I'm so envious, but maybe next year we'll be able to be a part of that circle.

We are boondocking...yes we are. We left Havasu City a bit early because Helen had to spend some more money here. It is pretty dead , all the C.G's had vacancy's but we did not stay in a C.G..no we didn't.We just careened into the desert were we saw some other campers, dropped the 3400, went into town and spent much money. We are now back in the desert,no one withing 500 feet of us. The Kipor is purring, our Verizon air card is working great. Helen is wipping up some kind of Chicken..think I will mix up a blender of Brandy Alexanders. To keep in the spirit of boondocking we will not hook up the satellite. This is the first time we have boondocked in a camper..We can handle it.

Rich: Dish is OK for boondocking. Wife cooking is also real GOOD. Distance from wife shopping sites is BETTER Now a fire and a telescope are all you need.

Sandi, we did have a big circle, all door toward the center where there was a big campfire ring. The dogs loved it because they could all meet in the middle and play or fuss at one another. I'll be posting some pictures on my blog soon and let you know. This retirement life is keeping me too busy!

Rich, we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to boondock using our generator. We had all the amenities. With the trucks that come by to empty your tanks and fill your water tank, you could dry camp indefinitely. We got the major TV stations without our satellite there at Q-zite, too.

We put the Kipor 3500 to the test.3.5 Cu foot freezer on AC..Fridge on AC because the 12V side of the ckt board is still broke, Both TV's on, Both PC's on , AC lights on, furnace running and Helen cranked on the Mocro wave....TILT.. That micro wave really speeds up the Generator. We could run the generator all night if we wanted to. There is no one nearby. This is the first real time test with the Kipor and we are pleased with the performance.

Our recent stay in Quartzite was our first extended time using our generator and it was really fun. We could always tell when our neighbors woke up in the morning 'cause the generators started to crank up. The generator makes for easy living and we're looking forward to doing more of it.

The Quartzsite rally was the best! It did take a couple of days to complete the circle...think Firetrucker had a slow engine, so he was a little behind, but to see all those Montanas lined up.....the campfires, pizza parties, and the great new friends.....Life just doesn't get any better, maybe next year we can have more rigs!

About the generators. We are fulltimers, and our goal WAS to only use our solar panels (4) and our golf cart batteries (6) for our dry camping power, well after seeing how these little marvels made life easy, we purchased a Honda 2000i. This has supplemented the solar so well, that now, boondocking is a breeze...even with our freezer.

The purr of the generators early in the morning and into the night was no problem, the sound never disturbed us at all.

Now if Mel would just quit slamming that front door of his rig when Joy tells him to start the generator, we would all sleep a lot better!

To any non-generator users at Quartzite,
How long can you last on just battery power as cold as it has been in Quartzite this year? I would think that one night would pretty much drain your battery with the heater running.
Brad,
We have solar panels so we can go on indefinitely as long as there is good sunshine during the day. Our batteries store 500 ampere-hours of charge. We don't run the furnace as long as it's not freezing. We have a 20,000 BTU Blue Flame propane heater that more than heats the rig. Running the propane heater and the ceiling fan on low, moving the air from the floor up to the ceiling and around keeps us toasty warm.

We enjoy boondocking. We usually don't need the generator the first night, but like to run it to make sure everything is working smoothly for our nightly card game, unless there is a campfire. In the past our little "Mr. Heater" was used nightly until we went to bed, then used the furnace at around 55. Now after this years trip to Quartzsite we purchased and had installed a 10,000 BTU ceramic heater. Then the weather got warm! We have enjoyed it in the cool AZ evenings and to get the chill off in the AM. We have a 5500 watt generator, 2000 watt inverter and 4 - 6 volt batteries. So we can watch tv, microwave and not drain the laptop battery. We were fortunate that we had very nice neigbors in Q this year who let us use their wifi! Saved our cell phones, as we have to remember to charge them when the generator is running or in the truck. The only drawback to boondocking is the fast shower, and you do have to dump and take on water, by going into town or have a service come to you. Wal-Mart parking lots are great too, I don't like rest areas, the trucks run all night, and I don't feel quite as safe.
we go to Algodones, MX every year for medicine, have a great dentist, no pain, he won't do
anything that doesn't need to be done, eyeglasses and price haggleing, good margueritas, music and good food! So we boondock by the interstate on Quechan Indian land. Judy

When using a portable generator, like 2 Honda 2000's in parallel, do you just plug your shore cord into the generator unit or how does that work?????

Phil,

If you go to the Camping World link above and use the zoom feature on the picture, you can see that there is a 30Amp plug on the left generator. You can just plug your shorepower cord in to this.
