2013 2nd AC Unit

Just an FYI. We ordered the second factory AC for out 3750FL. Went in bedroom (ours is in back so this is where the second AC is) and didn't see the AC unit but had verified it was on the roof. All I saw were two AC ducts in the ceiling and two what looked like air intake vents. The service technician said that's how they're doing it now instead of the unit sticking into the room. I said so is this an "upgrade" from the previous way and he said yes. Anyone know if this is true? Definitely cuts down on the noise inside as compared to the main unit in the kitchen/dining area.

Also he said they had the covers off, and we also got a 15k unit as the second unit and he said they are doing that now on the larger units too - so that worked out well. I'm the kind that the closer I can get it to "meat locker" cool, the better. Kris is very understanding and wears a jacket or sweater.

Rich, is your main unit in the living area the same as the bedroom, or does that one mount throught he ceiling with the quick cool feature?

Our rig also came with two 15,000 Btu units and since we got the Corps to give us a 50amp site those two big babies have been worth the cost. 106 day after day wouldn't be near so much fun without them. Our rig is 2010 so we still have the thru the ceiling models. I can live with the noise better than I could only having one on at a time in the 30amp site.

During the heat of the day my unit definitely requires both to keep it comfortable. When we go to bed I shut the bedroom unit off as the unit in the kitchen blows into the ductwork and delivers enough of air to the bedroom to be very comfortable and very silent.
Haven't encountered an overnight temperature that didn't stay above 80 degrees yet. That may be a different story a may require both.

No the main unit does not extend through the ceiling in to the main room. We like that as it is very quiet. They are ducted of course. Zone one is the main unit Zone 2 is the bedroom unit. Big improvement over the 06 3400

That's interesting how they do things at the factory. We have the regular one that is through the ceiling in the kitchen/dinging area, and then the "new" style in the bedroom - so we have one of each. Would have thought they would have done them the same way on the same unit - we must have a rare crossover unit LOL.

It's caused using all the old parts laying around. My convienence center has the large plastic star wheels for tighteners around all the water connections except for the black tank flush. There they used a regular old brass fitting.

We also added the second air conditioner for the bedroom and it comes thru the ceiling also. The one in the living area is a whisper quiet.

What brand & model is so quiet? Ours is so loud we dont really want to run it but have to. To listen to TV the volume has to be cranked to max.

Ours is stored at a storage place so I'll have to check again - but I'm pretty sure it is the Dometic that is so quiet and is mounted without coming through the ceiling.

i think they are quiet because they are both ducted. It has been in the high 90's and even 100's and very humid here in Northern Ohio The 3402 is along side the house plugged in to 50 amps with both A/c set at 80 degrees. two things we note that is different from the 06 3400. They are very quiet and they keep the unit cooler. the 06 3400 would have run constantly to maintain the temp in this heat. In this unit one or the other and sometimes both will shut down

Rich, we opted out of the 2nd AC because of height concerns. Do you know how tall you are now with the second factory installed 2nd AC? We were told the 2nd AC from the factory would bring us from 13'7" to "about" 14'5". We are considering adding a Dometic low profile Penguin to the system once we take delivery. Much more expensive choice we are finding out, but hopeful we gained the 8 to 10 inches of overhead.

same height as before under 13,3'. Note that the A/c's are on the slope of the roof. The high point on our 06 3400 and this 13 3402 is the vent over the bathroom. We have been under hundreds of overpasses and if we were 14'5' we would not have a roof and if 13'7" most likely the same.
We did not get the dual pane windows on this one or the 2006 3400. The spec's on Rv dual pane windows indicates they do little for heat/cold transfer and not much better for n. Again we control our enviroment with thewheels on the camper.

I don't know what the difference is, but the added air conditioner in the bedroom of our 3582 is not ducted and it is a whole lot quieter than either of the units on the 08 Jayco.

They are both ducted in the 3402 Big sky and we just found out they are both 15.5 btu units.

A/C question. We just got our new 2012 Montana High Country Model 343RL with one roof air 15,000 btu. It's not quiet and makes the 5th wheel shake when turned on. The first time it came on I was laying in on the bed (unit is over the living area) and the rig shook so much I thought we were having a earthquake. Went into the living room and laid on the couch and got the same feeling. Kind of reminded me of the magic fingers beds in hotel rooms where you insert a quarter for a bed massage. I want my husband to call the dealer service dept., but he wants to check with the forum to see if this is normal operations. I think it should go on our fix it list cause if it shakes the bed and couch now, what will it be like after six months of use.

Hi Lynn - welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new trailer!

I would have that checked. We just did our PDI and had two 15k units running and had virtually no movement. In fact, even with our onboard generator we barely had a vibration as movement, but not like what you're describing. They may have not tightened bolts all the way or something as simple as that hopefully, but no, it does not sound right.

The last time I saw that happen there was a dirt dobbers nest in the squirrel cage on the fan motor. If the A/C hasn't been used in a while theres a high probability of a nest of some sorts (wasp, dobber, spiders etc.
