Black tank capacity

My owners manual for my 2007 3475 RL says the capacity of the black tank is 50 gallons. I put 7 five gallon cans of water into it after flushing the tank and it was full to the top. Do I have 15 gallons of hard stuff? What to do about it?

Website specs for all 2007 model Montana's lists the black tank capacity as 38 gallons, fresh water 60 gallons and gray water (both tanks - galley and normal gray) as 76 (again 38 each).

Perhaps using Happy Camper Chemical might help. If it is buildup, then letting this set according to its instructions might break up your pyramid. We have used this for the last 5 years or so...

I believe your black tank is just smaller than some of the newer models.

Assume you are judging from the toilet view, and not relying on a sensor read?

38 gallons sounds about right. I'm guessing you are looking at the sensors which have been known to be unreliable since they have been known to collect "debris" over time and then give the wrong reading even though the tank is actually at a different capacity.

You might have to fill the black tank several times to continue to flush out debris and get the sensors cleaned. If it's bad enough you might have to have it professionally done or do a forum search for the many ways that the tank can be cleaned especially the sensors.

The biggest problem I've determined from usage is that most people do not flush with enough water. Just because the effluent leaves the toilet does not mean you stop the water from flushing. A trick many use is with "number 1" leave it open for a full 5 to 10 seconds and for "number two", double that. We use a 7 & 15 count. This helps ensure enough water to prevent buildup and keep the sensors cleaner than not doing this.

Our sensors seems to work better than most, but even then we still have our occasional sensor issue until I can get it a good cleaning and flushing going. Having a "tornado-like" backflush sprayer helps a lot!

Looks like to me your waste water tank is 38 gallons not 50.

No I was not relying on the sensers. I filled so it would not take any more but if it
a 38 gallon tank then I am not too far off. I filled the 5 gal container to the top 7 times and I suppose it actually holds a little more than 5 when filled completely.
Thanks for the replies. I did not want to have to take the bottom covering off to get a look at the tanks if I did not have to.

As she sings her so famous sing song:

MORE WATER, LESS PAPER.

Oh, and forget those silly sensors, we all know they rarely work. Our fresh water one does, sorta.
