emptying tanks

Hi folks.

When empting the black/gray tanks with a vac truck, do you hook the hose from the truck directly to the sewer drain? I imagine the tanks are vented well enough so they don't collapse because of the vacuum but thought I'd better ask before doing it.

Thanks.

If you want to be on the safe side put somthing to hold the toilet open to release the presure.

I'm with Ron, a reputable company will have a tee in their line with a piece of pvc sticking up in the air, this prevents getting too much suction on the tank. Blocking the toilet open is good insurance

Hookup is direct; I've seen these Honey Wagons in the parks for years, and have never heard of anyone having tank damage because of vacuum. Good advice above, if concerned, block the toilet.

Some of the Honey wagons that come around in the BLM drycamping areas have caused a lot of problems, not as nice as the ones that you might see in the parks.

Have a stick to hold the toilet valve open just to be on the safe side.

I've never thought about it, but haven't used one but say 3 or 4 times and in a private CG not BLM land. The truck hooked up the big hose to the rig's sewer outlet and whoosh, things were gone. There is a good size vent pipe for each tank (or so I thought) and thought this should be enough venting.

Tell me more "Helmick". Are the BLM ones more heavy duty? Isn't the Quartzsite Circle on BLM land and honey wagon service provided - I haven't heard of any complaints there? Is it not all BLM places? What kind of problems should one expect if the honey wagon is too strong!

This sure makes me curious.

I've never done this - what does one pay on average for this service?

WE used the honey wagon at the :Q" circle, there are several available, the one we used had a "T" to regulate the VAC pressure. They can collapse the tank. Cost was $25.00 with at least 3 rigs. He said it will increase next year.
