Slides create vacuum
The other day I was leaning against the entry door that was open about two inches. When the big slide started going out the door slammed shut pushing me out of the way. I never thought about what a vacuum is created with slide going out and door closed. I'm sure there is pressure when slide comes in. My new rule; any time slides are going out or in to have door open. I'm surprised that sewer gases are sucked up into camper when slides go out. Also noted slides go out and in a little faster with door open.

It usually uses the vents under the stairs and the vent into the basement to help with that, but I don't think opening a door is a bad idea. I usually do that just to make sure I hear if I've missed something and a bad event is happening. Been lucky so far, but I've done some dumb stuff in the past.

Never noticed it before, but we have probably always had the door open. But no surprise as that is a lot of volumn change.

Yep, same thing on our 2004. We crack that little slide thingy on the door open a bit, or hold door open, but, the vaccum will pull that door shut.

Our dealer told us to allways have the door or the roof vent open when opening the slides due to the air flow.

All the advice above is correct but watch the door when you close the slides......the door will be pushed open if it's ajar. So I suggest that leaving the door
open when closing is also a good idea. As Dick said - "but I don't think opening a door is a bad idea. I usually do that just to make sure I hear if I've missed something and a bad event is happening." Bad things can happen when closing the slides too.

I guess we have always happened to have our door open when bringing the slides in or out. Never really paid any attention to the air being moved forcefully enough to do any significant damage or even any movement of the door or curtains or anything else. When our slides come in all the seals are broken. Once that happens any significant air force is broken. I can't believe that the way these things are built that this would be a problem. After all this is the top of the line Keystone product! Dennis

I find it hard to believe that a slow moving slide out would create that much air volume. I think it is more of the wight of the slide moving causing the door to move. The large slides have a lot of fixtures on them which makes them heavy and they put a lot of suspended weight on the left and right side of the trailer as they move.

Well at least on mine you can believe it. I tried with door open only about 1" and it required quite an effort to keep door from slamming. You can feel the air rushing in. It might be that mine is new and slide seals are still tight. My old Sunnybrook didn't seem to do it nearly as bad. Also the slides are not slow on this Mountaineer. I would say they are twice as fast as the Sunnybrook.

Guess this is something I never really thought about as, like most others, I always have the door open to listen for a screech, ping, pop or some noise from somthing I have forgotten. Maybe "old" ears isn't so bad after all--lol--Happy Trails
