Either you have the hot water heater in winter bypass via the bypass valves or the check valve at the outlet fitting of the hot water heater is stuck shut (if you have such a check valve).

You do not need to heat hot water. Sorry could not resist. LOL. But seriously most likely what was said above. My guess is its in bypass from being winterized.

Curiosity has the best of me.... If it is in bypass mode from winterization,How would they have water in it now to be heated?

Is that opposed to a cold water cooler?

What valve are you referring to? The pressure relief valve?
If so, I would agree either in bypass or the water heater outlet check valve is stuck.

CarWin … since this guy is new to the MOC with no info as to if it is a new or used unit … lotsa possibilities come to mind. Dealership tech flipped the valves for some odd reason before delivery … owner flipped the valves out of curiosity … family member or friend experimenting with all the gizmos in the convenience center. He said he had hot water coming out the valve … I interpreted it to be the relief valve.

If you are sure the bypass valves are in the correct position for normal use … the check valve will be right on the outlet fitting of the water heater. Hard to reach depending on model.
