We crossed it two years ago. There was a toll. We had no problem going across. Also, there is a nice visitor center just before you cross.

Virginia is correct. There is a toll (went up there January 17th) and you absolutely must stop at the Visitors Center on the north end of the bridge!! The pictures you can take of the bridge and your rig together are always great desktop screensavers. Be sure to stop in and grab some Pasties for a great Upper Peninsula lunch, you'll see them advertised all over and they make a nice lunch for a day trip to Mackinaw Island--another MUST!

View of the Mackinac Bridge on our trip in 2012, from the Northside going Southbound. No Toll booth was encountered in either end, but maybe it was a holiday?

Nice clear pic, the motorhome is hugging the stripped line too.

John, depending on which direction you are travelling the toll is paid after you have crossed north or before crossing if you are heading south. The booths are located at the north end of the bridge. My guess is that you were so impressed with the beauty of the bridge that you didn't notice the toll booths. I know I am amazed by it's beauty EVERY time I cross it and I have made that trip 150 plus times. One of my favorite Michigan attractions.

In my experiences, every time we crossed they were doing some work and one lane was closed due to maintenance, so don't plan on picking a certain. It's just a bridge and longer than most. Quit thinking about it and just do it.

It's interesting that the actual suspension bridge is shorter and lower than the Golden Gate.

OMG, I hope I didnt run the toll booth, otherwise they have a warrant out for me, haha.... no, there was NO booth , per DW also whom I questioned. Also I kept my eye on the lane, as right after this picture was taken, by DW through windshield, it broke down to 1 lane for maintenance work near the center of the bridge. Oh well, dont matter, it's just a beautiful drive over and had a very nice drive down the eastcoast of Lake Michigan also, towards Benton Harbor.

I assure you there is a permanent toll booth, north end of the bridge. As a Michigander, I am authorized to grant you one-time forgiveness for missing your chance to give us money!

One time crossing the Mighty Mack with the 5'er there were cross winds, and they made me wait until a fully loaded semi came along, and paired me up to go across side by side. Other than that never had a problem except one couple hour closure to get snow off the bridge after a heavy down fall in a very short time. The bridge authority is on top of everything, you won't have a problem.

There's a very interesting museum in Mackinac about the history of the bridge and what it took to make it. It's in a two story brick pizza shop on a corner in the main section of town. It is on the second floor and free. Well worth the visit.

If I recall correctly, that burnt down last year. It was a big loss to the history of the bridge...

Mama Mia's pizza did have a fire a few years ago but I assure you that it is again open and they still have the museum upstairs. They lost a number of the museum pieces in the fire but they have been able to replace most of them....well worth the visit.

The only thing to remember about the Mac is one lane is metal grating and it feels strange when you drive on it. Not a problem, just feels strange, And sounds strange too!

Motorcycles hate that lane.

That's pretty funny, it made me LOL! We're going to make up it up there hopefully within a year, we want to do a loop over a period of probably 2 weeks, IL, Mich, maybe MN, Wis, then back home. Thanks all.
