New Models Needed

If Keystone is listening, I have some news for them. They no longer have anything between 30' and 35' in the upscale Montana to compete against other manufacturers. Many of the National and State Park campgrounds are limited to 30' and less. Our current 365RLQ Big Sky takes a minor miracle to get up our drive. We want to buy a third Montana, but we need something shorter. And, we need access to the refrigerator, bathroom and bedroom without putting out the slides. We are seeing the Montana "wannabe's" coming up with innovative floorplans that accomplish this in a shorter unit. I hope at this year's rally, we see something that will meet this goal. Thanks for listening.

And I doubt that there is enough interest in that range for keystone to design a couple of layouts that would satisfy folks...opinion of course. Sounds like if that length is your goal, then it is time to go to one of the major rv shows to see if you can find anything from anyone...or you could give up the house and start the full time live-aboard lifestyle. When we talked to the salesman at Quartzite Rally he wondered why the stopped making the 2955 said he could not keep them on the lot and the used ones he got were gone in a couple of days. We love ours and plan on keeping it for awhile longer.

I am curious about the comment regarding Keystone's lack of interest in shorter units. Open Range, Bighorn, Grand Design, Jayco, Redwood, Palomino, etc. all have shorter models. And, the dealers are asking for them. In the Western states, many campgrounds won't accommodate a 39' fifth wheel.

I suspect Keystone Montana thinks they can make more money on the larger units but they are letting a portion of the market get away that they can't get back once it is gone. We make products we loose money on but the next time that customer needs something they will be back.

This is the reason we are still in our older model 2955. It has a great layout and it's just the size we want.

I agree eliminating the smaller units is a mistake especially the 2955RL
Which has serviced us very well, Easy to tow, park no need for a monster truck or G rated tires.
Our Dealer no longer sells Montana tells me they are required to stock 4 units bottom line just not selling!

Montana has not had anything under 30' since 2002 and nothing under 33' since 2004. In 2007 when I bought my 3075RL (34'-8") the shortest they offered was the 2955RL listed as 33'-9". And now the shortest listed is 35'-9". And yet they remain the number one selling 5er for 11 years running. Apparently they feel they have reached their target market. And yet, complacency can sometimes lead to a fall.

I agree Ron. We have had two Montana's and love them. We have a '13 3100 and I have to climb over the counter to get to the refrigerator. My husband does not want to pull a bigger camper because we camp a couple weeks a year, otherwise take long weekends. It would be nice for Keystone to keep people like us in mind.

The length of our 3150RL works fine for us and we stay at many national forest sites in Colorado. It also fits fine in Colorado state campgrounds. It's length is 34 feet 6 inches.
Yes, there are some places it won't fit but so far that hasn't been a problem.

Jay, they dropped the 3150. Now, it appears they are dropping the 3155. It now says Stock Only. It looks like 5 models are being discontinued. This might be the year for a new short floor plan. I think 34/35' would be fine for us. Now, it will be interesting to see what happens at rally. Will there be a new floorplan in this size that lets you access the fridge, bedroom and bathroom and has a side aisle with stadium seating?

Our 3150RL allows us to reach the stove, frig, bath room with all the slides in. I think it was discontinued because of the frig can only be a 8' which is fine with us.

The bath in one room, is not for us. The toilet is in it's own room, and the shower and sink is in a large area in the BR with the washer in the front closet.

We wanted wanted a short trailer since we usually double tow and want the total length to be something reasonable. We are 66'6" long when hooked up with the golf cart or RZR on the 2nd trailer. We too spend time out west and a 40' trailer is just too big.

We have a 2013 285rld. I think the length is 31'9".
Just 2 slides. Perfect for us. We go to a lot of National parks. So far so good.

Rom, we have 2014 High Country 318RE that is 34' 6" and can access the fridge, shower, john, and bed. Have to put out either the main slide or the kitchen slide to get to the back but are able to over night at WalMart without putting any of the three slides out.

We too have been looking for a 5th wheel in the 30-35' range, that is usable with the slides in.......bumping the slides out at a rest stop is just asking for a semi to run into that puppy. We are leaning towards a High Country 293RK.

That would be my guess also. Keystone RV is just probably marketing their products a little differently. They are electing not to make Montana models in a 15' range of sizes.

I love my 2955RL at 32 feet. It still fits into most state campgrounds and can access all Areas without putting out slides. I had trouble finding a used one 2 years ago when I bought it.
