fuel filter
I have decided to start changing my fuel filter instead of paying the dealer. What are your preferences for filters? There seems to be a number of opinions on the different diesel web sites. I have a 2003 Dodge HO diesel 3500.
Thanks

stick with a brand name and you will not go wrong. Remember the phrase"pay me now or pay me later"

Geno's is on my short list of vendors though I did not find a case price. I'll call them tomorrow. Fleetguard seems to be the OEM filter of choice but Baldwin got a lot of positive comments.
Thanks

Some diesels are sensitive to air and fuel filters...I stick with OEM for fuel.

I've been using NAPA filters since my 2004 dodge was new. Have not had any problems. I change every other oil change. If you belong to AAA they will give you a discount on parts of any kind.

I know that originally the micron specification was 10 but has since changed to 7. Do you know the micron specs for NAPA?
Thanks

For the large rigs Wix filters seam to be very popular.
These are all I run in mine.
I have been gettting them from Fleet Oil and Truck Supply.

I ordered one Fleetguard from Geno's today which should get me through my Cummins warranty. I asked about a case price and was quoted 50 cents/filter less, plus a cap on the shipping. If all goes well this time, I'll stick with them.
For snicks I called the dealer and was quoted $51 labor and $35 for the filter. In the past I was always having additional work done so never really paid attention to the individual cost of the fuel filter replacement. I will still take my truck in for the oil change. Jiffy Lube is still under $60 which is worth it for the oil, filter and disposing of the old stuff.

I have used fuel filters in my Dodge from Geno's Garage for 9 years now and never had a problem with them. They are good filters and about the cheapest I have found anywhere. I don't think you could go wrong with them at all.
I always carry an extra filter in my truck in case I run into some bad fuel somewhere or if the winter cold should ever give me a problem.

I don't know about fuel filters, but GM is particular about which air filter is used...has to do with the amount of air getting through. I (all of us, really) have lots of money tied up in these diesel engines, so I use strictly OEM filters. They might be a little more expensive, but nothing compared to the $$$$ invested.

I installed a WIX fuel filter, no problems so far. My diesel guy said it ws probably the best bang for the buck out there and better than the OEM (GM). I agree on the air filter, nothing flows better than the stock air filter from GM on my 07 classic dually. I conmpared specs betwen the amsoil and the OEM and fram and OEM and some others, forgot which and nothing flowed more.

Ford is very touchy about the air filter, also. It's right in the manual. And that filter is not cheap. Last time I looked it was over $100. However, at 85,000 miles when we traded the Ford it still had the original air filter. And the filter minder said it was less than 10% blocked. Two dealers told me it was fine. Good thing, at $100 per pop.
