Diesel prices

Diesel and gas jumped here in Omaha yesterday! Diesel is now $4.399 and regular gas is about $3.599! I'm afraid to see what it will do today! Just think in a couple of weeks it's Memorial Day weekend and that's when a lot of people start to head out on vacations. The oil companies have it all planned out! This keeps up even with the Congressional deals we won't be able to tow Monte anywhere! I really feel for those truckers heading up and down the biways of the US. They can't be making any money especially if they are independents. I did notice on some of the items you order now over the net and etc that they are adding a "fuel surcharge" to the pricing. It's just another way for them to take the consumer and line their pockets I know but even the companies are taking advantage of this deal and becoming crooks! Remember the $.10 a gallon gang??!!??

Just got our quarterly trash bill - it increases every quarter and is getting out of hand as well. This time there is a 12.00 fuel and 'environmental' surcharge added; last time it was only 7 dollars. Passing on the costs to the consumer but we consumers need raises to keep up with these cost increases -- what a vicious circle. Things are already having to be changed to meet fuel expenses -- wife has to get to military base to work; no local busses and car-pooling is not practical given her overtime hour requirement. Our monthly fuel bill has more than doubled in the past year.... oh well, I know everyone else has similar problems but had to vent some. Thanks.

Diesel fuel prices are still nuts here in Colorado. Saw it for $4.59 on the way home from a trip (In Divide, CO). The station across the street had it for $4.09. Vehicles were lined up into the street for that one. Wonder why?

That's pretty sad when people are lined up at fuel pumps for $4.09 diesel...

*On Edit~ you know if you would have told someone 2 years ago that "vehicles would be lined up at the pumps for $4.09 diesel" here in the US, they would have run out and started building bomb shelters again... Seriously - think about it... What would you have thought???

This AM gas is at 3.899/3.999 and diesel at 4.359/4.799/ That is in the 3 county area I do my bus run in. we are very fortunate that we have these "bus driving" funds that can be dedicated solely to Rv'ing. We have had to cut back on out Summer adventure in order to drive and earn the dollars for our winter adventure but we feel much more fortunate than many others. Energy is driving up all prices to record levels but salary/ income is not following. The price of diesel fuel alone has increased 30% since November of 07 while my pension increased 2.3%.

There is a break point were the average person will not be able to provide the basic necessities of every day life. IMO .It is very close and there is a storm brewing..

Best price in Bakersfield is $4.59. Prices are still going the wrong direction.

LOVE this quote from a US Senator on the passage of the bill to temporarily suspend putting oil into the Strategic Reserve.

"When the American consumer is being burned at the stake by energy prices, the government ought not be carrying the wood."

These guys, of course, have re-election on their minds now.

We just came thru a town of about 35,000 in Illinois... One station had diesel for $4.59 and three blocks down the road it was $4.39.... Guess which one we filled up at?

I was looking back in my camping log, and one year ago today, I filled up with diesel at the flying J off I-65, at the Franklin, ky. exit for $2.49!! Wow what a difference from yesterday, at $4.14.9!! and this was in chattanooga tn, and one station was $4.69.9

The Senate voted 97-1 for this reserve suspension. The lone dissenter's only reason for voting no was because he felt the measure did not go far enough. He was upset that it did not address what Rick just mentioned. He felt we need to be drilling for our own resources, and that should have been included in the bill.

It will do nothing..It addresses no problem.What goes into the reserve is but a trickle..

Can anyone tell me why we can't tap all those capped oil wells in Oklahoma, Texas & Wyoming, etc.? Also, what good does it do to find more oil when the oil companies won't build new refineries?

My son lived near Memphis when this mess started last year. They ran out of gas at a number of stations and questioned why they would run out when they had a refinery there. I guess your question is along the same line. Less oil, less gas, higher prices. FYI, if you check out the very first posting of this topic, diesel in my area was 355.9 on 2/29/08. I topped it off 2 days ago at 429.9 just before it was raised to 449.9. That's 90 cents in 2 1/2 months!!!!!!!

That 121% annual increase. I'm sure everyone's salary/wage is increasing accordingly...

You have to wonder how many people are literally going to freeze to death next winter in the northeast because they can't afford heating oil!

Yeap - our legislature (Kansas) saw the issue and gave a 2.5% increase to all those still working, and 300 one time payment to retiree's; that will go a long way to meet that 121% fuel increase - and leave some left over for food, clothing -- oh yeah -- and heat!!!! (NOT!!!!!!) There is no disposable income left for us this year and it is only MAY!! Off the soapbox...

I should have filled up yesterday at $4.12 a gallon for diesel. That was on the Naval Air Station, P'Cola. Today, the sign is $4.19.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!!!!

I finally figured out a way to look at these high fuel prices in a positive manner. Like lots of you, I have some stock in the energy companies that are in the fuel business. One has increased 270% and the other 128%.
