CGs in Jackson, MS and Montgomery, AL?
Headed east on I-20 next week, and planning a night or two in both the Jackson, MS and Montgomery, AL areas. Any recommendations or "don't go there" info is appreciated...
Thanks,

We have stayed in a great campground about 30 miles south of Montgomery on Hwy 231S. It is the Deer Run RV Park. WE did not consider it a destination location but would be great for a few days rest as you travel.

We have been in Ozark, about 70 miles south of Montgomery at the best park we have ever stayed at over the winter. It is the Ozark Travel park on Hwy 231. I know it is out of your way, but wanted to let you know about this small but GREAT park.

We live near Montgomery, P.J. and Nan. There's a new, full hookup, overnite type camp just off 231 between Montgomery and Wetumpka. If that's what you're looking for, send me an email and I will give you more specific directions.
By the way, Interstate 20 goes through Birmingham. We're about 90 miles south. If you are going through Birmingham, most people do not recommend Oak Mountain State Park. Tannehill State Park is much better. Judy

I'm probably too late to help you with the first leg of your trip, but if you haven't gone through Jackson yet, I would have to recommend the "Ross Barnett Reservoir" campground about 20 min. off I-55 from County Line Road exit in Jackson. Beautiful treed sites, not too close together, pool, tennis, showers, really nice. Will be happy to give you detailed directions if still interested. They take reservations for 2 consec. nights only, but reservationed sites are not in trees. Unless holiday weekend, we've never had trouble getting a site. We stop there every time we head to Destin from St. Louis.
