Angry Water Heater gets too hot

Suburban model SWI2DE water heater gets so hot it trips the pressure relief valve, is there any way of setting the temp. on it?

Does it get too hot on electric or gas? Which ever mode it gets too hot on, then that thermostat/Hi-limit switch needs to be replaced, and this can be done without draining the water heater, just need to turn off both modes. If water is just dripping from the TP valve, then it is normal due to pressure buildup inside the tank due to not having an air pocket.

If it is doing it on both electric and gas then you may have a bad pressure relief valve.

Or you may not have an air pocket in the water heater.

I had to hunt around to get the proper hi-limit switch. Good luck.
