Fender Skirts

From past experience of replacing the fender Skirts on our previous Crusader I was wondering if you have had any problems with the fender skirts on a 3121rl. My concern is that wind catches them and rips them off. I have already reinforced the leading edge of the skirt with foil type adhesive tape. Am I worrying about something that may never happen? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Many have put speed nuts on the screws to keep them from backing out.

I lost two fender skirts which were replaced under warranty which had backing retainers installed by CW. When possible I would certainly install some type of retainer.

I used nuts/bolts with proper washers to reinforce.

I used stainless steel screws, flat washers, and locking nylon nuts. Been there 4 years with no problem.

I just put a dab of silicone on the screw threads on all screws in sheet metal.

Mine also we "open" like that, I was able to push them flush as the bracket behind it is flexible metal.

Before I attached the new skirts I re-enforced the back of each hole with fiberglass mat and epoxy, redrilled holes and uses bolts. Never loosened again nor did they break out like the original.

Max, you are the first person I have heard mention breaking of the skirts. The screw nearest the door kind of mounts over the top of the 6 inch thing around the edge of the slide. This is about 1/4 - 3/8 inch thick. I made the mistake of REALLY tightening down the screw right near this edge. It ended up fracturing the skirt around the screw hole and I had to patch it back up with a fiberglass kit. Seems dumb to have a screw in an area that will break the skirt if you tighten it!!!

Fender Skirts

I had ours crack at all the screw holes also. They ended up falling off 2 months after we bought it. We did get a new set under warranty, but they are still in the box waiting for the day I actually need them. I took the damaged ones and added a rubber flat washer about 1" in diameter to set against the painted skirt. Then I stacked on a nylon washer on about 3/4" in diameter for strength, then on top of all that I put stainless steel finish washers to give it a nice rounded finished look. We used all stainless bolts and flat washers to fit on the back side. Finished it off with stainless lock nuts to prevent loosening. So far we have thousands of miles and this is our second year without any issues. We found everything needed at Lowes in the hardware isle. It wasn't very expensive. I think it was less than $20 for everything. It took about 10 minutes a side to replace them one at a time.

We see the same on our 2019 3120RL. The break in the fender skirt for the slide out does not consistently align creating a gap, that becomes a wind scoop. It seems like it is only a matter of time before the plastic gives way no matter what fastener is used.

I have had to replace hardware. i shimmed between the the fairing and the side of the RV so that the hard ware would not pull thru.

"rest19" i talked with Keystone about this issue and sent them a picture of an older montana. see below

Quite a contrast between the old and the new. We will be bringing this up with our rig very soon. I will be interested to see if you get a response. Thank you for the pictures.
