plastic wiring holder underslide broke

Went on a trip with the Montana this last week and when I got to Joseph Oregon there was a black plastic thing hanging out from under the back of the big slide by the wires. It is the part that holds the electrical wires that run to the outer edge of the slide.
after much head scratching and my three buddies opinions as to why, we found that the design is a joke. They take a piece of plastic that is bolted to the metal frame of the slide and run it back towards the frame. Every time the slide opens and closes the bend gets flexed. After doing this it eventually cracked and broke off leaving only the wires holding it up. We wired it to the outside of the slide frame and got home fine. It goes into the dealer 1 week from tomorrow to get fixed. First problem other than getting the remote stat. change to a CC.

This was talked about a while back on the forum. This was on my list of last minute warranty items last year. The fix by the dealer was a hinge from the support to the slider. Great fix, but it SHOULD have been built stronger to start with.

Ours did it first on the entertainment slide side when it was new. Now it is doing it on the livingroom side. So I am going to have to get my friend to climb under there and figure out what else can be done to alleviate the problem. When the first side did it, the wires were spliced and we had no power so I don't want that to happen again.

I think it should have been hinged. That way it could move freely when going in or out. I need to check the galley slide and see what shape it is in.

This has happened to several of us. TrailerTrash2 posted some really good pictures of his fix. We have ours temp. fixed and carry two metall hinges with us just in case. One of ours is fixed (it wasn't all the way through) with duck tape.
Happy trails.......................

I haven't seen these looms up close yet. Are you all putting hinges on both ends? The slide end and the coach end?

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

The coach end is on a vertical rod so it pivots as it moves. I put the hinge [a 4"er] across the break at the slide end. I removed the small, broken off part first. This was on the 2nd one which broke about 3 months after being installed by the dealer.

This is our next project. We are going to do the fix in our driveway so we will not have to do it at a rest stop, campground or truck stop.Think I've got the materials in stock.I am very thankful for this forum and the folks that share their fixes...

I might just hinge mine and cancel the appointment to have it repaired. Even if they fix it its bound to crack again and hang by the wires. This forum is great!

Someone took the pictures mentioned above to their dealer and the dealer did the fix with the metal hinges.

While preparing for the Hinge fix I took hold of the extender on my main slide at the side where it is connected to a round metal shaft. It came off in my hands..There is a lock washer of the other extenders..not on this one. The extender was at the very end of the shaft ready to fall off while we were going down the road. Just another little thing...take a look at yours.
