Safety latch for screen door
We finally got our Montana Mountaineer 295RKD!!! We are busy getting all the "necessities" and really look forward to this new lifestyle. After spending a night or two in it in our drive for a test run, our maiden voyage will be to one of the state parks that is only a couple of hours away.
We have invited our daughter and her family to join us. They have two little ones and we are concerned about them being able to push the screen door open and falling down the stairs! Is there a safety latch that we can put on the door to keep this from happening?
BTW, we are already looking at getting a screen door grill to keep them from pushing the screen out!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We have 2 kitties that we don't want to get out. DH installed a simple hook and eye latch on the inside near the handle. We simply push the sliding panel over to reach in and unlock to come in and vice versa when we go out. I know the kitties are safe and it was really simple. good luck

We used a latch that you can get at Lowes. It was originally intended for a window but works well on door. We have a cat also. He learned early on how to open the screen door with the OEM latch. This one takes some pressure to open it.....look around and you can find something that will work for you......Lowes and Home Depot have been my friends since fulltiming....

What about those baby gates that expand and secure to the walls with rubber pads that is if you have a wall on each side of your entry way.

the hook and eye sounds like a good idea. Will look into that one.
We thought about the toddler gate, but then realized that we have no walls! LOL, so that idea was tossed out.

You can fold the assist handle forward to block the door. It's accessable from the inside, too, by using the sliding panel by the doorknob.

I too installed a sliding bolt as we travel with Show Cats and we wanted to make sure they were safe, but you have to make sure the door is closed or nothing will work (don't ask me how I know).
