Ambulance chaser lawyers want to collect more than just win the case. They go after deep pockets, large companies and municipalities and such. Our church's ins agent advised us not to put our name on our van cause they go after anyone within two blocks of an accident that may have high coverage.

Having said that, they also don't want to go to trial as they would actually have to make a case. They will threaten a large claim and settle for the ins max for a quick payment, take their cut and run.

Several years ago I advertised in a little magazine, Precision Shooting. There was a lawyer who wrote for it. He said for those of us who made Shooting products not have insurance. If you don’t have insurance the lawyers will leave you alone, you aren’t worth suing. Now we make muzzle breaks by the thousands without insurance. They go on the end of a high powered rifle barrel and if they aren’t installed correctly you can blow them off. I could be sued at any time but I’m not worried about it.
