Excellent Mobile RV Service in Port Aransas

Referred to ACRV mobile RV service while parked on Mustang Island, TX (between Corpus Christi and Port Aransas). Father-son operation, in business over 20 years. Father and helper came within 24 hours to replace our water heater switch that froze. They come in big Ford truck towing a large gooseneck enclosed trailer full of parts, and they have a parts store in Port Aransas as well. They work on everything RV except motorhome drivetrains. Very professional and reasonably priced.

Johnny, In general, how are businesses looking in Port A? I have only seen a few news reports that showed a few areas. Looks like the high rise condos are still behind in getting their units back into operation. Nice to hear about an RV parts store in town. We are leaving this weekend for NM, Utah, and Co. Hot weather to start but we will get to the cooler weather eventually!

It would be nice to have a permanent place on MOC where we could post Mobil Services so when were are traveling and needed one they would be easy to find.

Was in Port A for the day last weekend. Still lots of scars from Harvey. Some small hotels are for sale. Some homes still to be moved and elevated. Lots of businesses open and ready for tourist dollars. Did not get to checkout any campgrounds.

We Love Port A!

We love Port A! Very glad to hear about this service. May I ask what they charged for a service call?

Port Aransas

We have been going to Port A since the late 90's and we are going to try to find a weekend to go soon. We have stayed at most of the campgrounds down there but Pioneer is our preferred.

I bought a Dometic 320 toilet online for the Monte from PPL Motorhomes - so now I get their email newsletter. The clip below was in the July news letter with an update on Port A...a bit off topic - but this is how I get back on topic...

ACRV Parts Store in Port A. The Laredo travel trailer we had before the Monte had some upper cabinet doors that swung up - not out (as with side hinges) and Keystone did not put spring-loaded hinge props on them. Grrrrr...it was aggravating. I went to the parts store and bought all the cabinet door props I needed and installed them while we were at the campground. It's a small store but they have lots of good stuff!

ACRV Parts Store is owned by the father-son team that worked on my rig.
They came out, confirmed the switch was bad, completely checked out the water heater, replaced the switch, anode was still good. $130 grand total and I thought that was very reasonable for what they did.
Some of the larger restaurants are still closed, some have reopened. Plenty of places to eat, beach is clean. Port A needs the tourist $$$ and as native Texans we believe in supporting our neighbors.
We always stay at Gulf Waters. Lots are individually owned, many are in a rental pool. Very nice, not that much more $$$ than Pioneer. Pioneer crams too many rigs too close together IMHO.

We hear ya! We have been going to Port A since early 60s, when there was not much there but a few shrimp boats. We were there just before the storm and have seen pics of the devastation. Rockport is another favorite. Can't beat the fresh seafood right off the boats. We will be stopping there in late October early November on our way to South Padre. Gotta see the shrimp lady and stock up for the winter.

awheeler: Where do you stay in South Padre? DW and I made an annual trip down there with our kids (pre-Montana-stayed in condos) for many years. Really like the "no cars on the beach" and better restaurants IMHO. Quit going many years ago once the college kids discovered it-especially around Spring Break. We are staying at Gulf Waters on Mustang Island for 33 days. While we are here we intend to make a day trip to South Padre to check out the RV parks there. From what I have read there are only two that have beach access you can walk to, and both are hard to get a big rig in and out of. I doubt we would ever stay more than a week or two that far from home (we live in San Antonio). Gulf Waters is about a 2 hour 45 minute drive in case we need to go home to check on the stick house, Drs. appts, etc.

In South Padre we stay at the KOA. Ya, there is not too many options near the water and that is okay with us. Fall & Winter there are not a lot of kids/teenagers. We have not had a hard time getting Big Mama into the KOA, but we take our time and DW actually rides the side step of the truck as we pull in anywhere. Harlingen has many more options and really great RV parks, but there you are not on the water.

P.S. If you are going to head down for a day trip and decide to spend the night I highly recommend using VRBO and rent a condo/house on the beach. We have done this many times and we always find a great rental for under $100 per night (often less) in the fall - after school starts back. Sure beats the hotels!

I agree, I found good service at the camping world in Toledo Ohio on a recent trip back from the UP of Michigan. I had to stop in but they fit me in for break issues on a Saturday.
