Glad we haven't had this problem!!

Saw this on yesterday's RV Travel Newsletter, and can't imagine how a rig, no matter what brand, could get this damaged without being in a wreck.

So much for the folks who say that brand makes a better rig.

After spending a lot of time with the claims and looking at the pictures, there has to be more to the story about this kind of damage. Something fishy going on there.

Wow those pictures really are a wake up call, another reason to do a through check every time before and after pulling.
I hope those folks get some satisfaction.

I’ve seen something similar on the road before.
There was an older mobile hone along side the road.
Behind the axels the walls were separated from frame to roof in a V shape maybe 5-6” at roof
There were 3 guys unloading concrete blocks from the inside back bedroom a bunch of blocks.
Went by later and they had jacked the trailer up and had 2 sheets of plywood attach on each side , a pick up load of blocks and ready to move on.

Could over weight have caused these issues?

Doesn't look like fun. Tend to agree that there must be more to this story. I did some frame damage on a SOB hitting frost heaves on an Alaska trip and had no problem getting my insurance to cover it.

That was my thoughts as well. It's one thing to have a crack in a side wall, but to have that kind of damage to the frame and suspension, in addition to all the other damage, were they using this as an off road camper and jumping it across the terrain? I think I would have noticed that damage way before it got that bad without real close inspections. No wonder the manufacturer and their insurance are giving them a hard time with any claims, that is just abuse caused damage.

I noticed a utility trailer beside the fiver in one of the pics. Maybe towing a heavy trailer behind? I believe this model is on this manufacturer's scale too.

That appears to me from the pictures of the axles that the entire suspension gave wat and the axles shifted etc. causing the frame to run wonky down the highway splitting everything apart.

Hi

That is a typical I beam failure and when the structure it supports began to “diamond” because of the lack of support on one side it causes that type of damage.

I have seen this in buildings before.

My metal structures engineer told me a year or so before he passed away that Lippert needed an experienced metal structure engineer with welding training.

Common sense should have told them something in the frame work initially caused the first crack they had repaired, kind of like a cement slab on a house when you see cracks in the walls. I always slow it down when the roads get ruff, it's just common sense.
