2008 Montana 3400RL Dealer Price

I am looking at a 2008 3400RL at Suncoast RV here in Pinellas Park, FL where we are for the winter. They have quoted a price of $58,087 and a not-too-great trade-in. I am wondering what any of you have seen lately on the price for the 2008 3400RL?

Jim,
First of all, where are you in Pinellas County. We are up at Avalon RV just north of East Bay on the frontage road for 19. Just 6 miles from Suncoast.

Suncoast is an OK dealer but their service leaves a bit to be desired. Not that it's bad service, it's just slow service. Just stay on their back and you shouldn't have any problems.

I can give you some insider info but I'd rather do it via a PM.

Jim,
Sounds high to me, especially in the current market. Lots of 3400RL owners on here to give you feedback. I'm also checking w/a friend who sells Montanas to get ballpark for you. More to follow.

I would recommend run the other way and find another dealer. We just got an 08 Big Sky with double pane windows and 2nd AC for 54K and change. They have got to be kidding... Dave and Betsy

Jim,

We bought our 3600RE last month from Sun Coast in Jacksonville for much less than what they have quoted you. It came with lots of upgrades.

I bought my Mountaineer from Suncoast in Pinellas Park. MSRP was $43 and I got it for just a shade under $30. Thats about 30% off. Agree with Glenn on the service, but since I work 2 miles from there, I stop my at lunch and after work to see how it's going. I actually get very good service from them. Had some friends that joined Costco, and they got a little more discount by doing this.

Jim,
I sent you a PM on our buying experience for our new 2008 3400RL.

One universal issue right now is the RV sales are down as noted by the industry itself.

You are the buyer and as someone told me on this forum awhile back, work the "sticker" from 40% down. Most dealers should meet you around 27-35%. To me, because I live in Florida and here most of my life except for military and work travel, the Suncoast group are high and not sure why as they are here and in Georgia as well, so they must have volume sales.

Good luck on your efforts and hope it works out for you. Dennis

I don't know what these have in them but here in MT at Bretz RV all the 08 3400RL are priced in the mid 60's,
We bought our used mint 05 3400rl this last april and gave 48 for it but it was loaded, awnings over all slides 2 air conditioners, 5500 onan generator King bed, slide tray in storage, washer and dryer, just a whole lot of extras. I have noticed all over the nw that these units are higher than down south

Jim, Don't run away from Suncoast at least not yet.
A lot of the advice you are getting right here is very close to what I sent you in the PM. Get the MSRP as I explained and take it from there.

Suncoast is no different from any other dealer whether it's RV's, cars, boats or other high priced items. They are all in the business to make money. When a salesman throws out a price to you who knows what may happen. I have seen people buy at the first price they received with no further negotiations. Over the years, some of these same folks found the MOC after their purchase. They were not very happy campers when the realized they should have haggled on the price.

Tell Terry I said "HI"

The price is way over inflated. You should be able to get it under $50,000 without a problem. Here is my suggestion. Contact Montana Bob at www.Lakeshore-rv.com The dealer I purchased from over the weekend just sold his last 3400 or you would be able to get one under cost. Also contact Michelle at Leisuretime RV in Midwest City, Oklahoma. www.leisuretimervok.com They are slow right now so you might be able to get a good deal from them. Your best bet is to check around and have them compete for your business. I know it saved me about $15,000 when I purchased out of state. I don't mind spending a grand in Diesel if it saves me 15-grand in the total cost.
Good Luck!
Phil

Yeah that seems high. I just purchased one a month ago and get about 34% under MSRP.

I did not buy a 3400RL, but just to show how they can work pricing. I was shopping for a 3075RL. Found one at one dealer. MSRP about $53K. But it was dirty and the undercarriage was very rusted. Salesman said it had come down during the winter and the road salt caused the corrosion. He said they would clean it up and repaint the undercarraige. I asked for his best price (even though I did not plan to buy it). He quoted $39,600. I found an almost identical unit at another dealer with same basic MSRP and it had been delivered only about 2 weeks prior. Salesman quoted $45,000. I told him I had been quoted $39.6K for the same unit at dealer X. He said, OK, I'll take $38,600 for mine. After a little negotiating, I bought it.

Talked to my friend in MN and he said, as others above have, that you should be looking under $50k, depending on options. Said he'd sell you one for less than that! God luck.

Last night on the news they did a story on an economic indicator of the times.... it was the RV industry. To make a long story short they said that the RV industry was off by 10% in 2007, and that it was expected to be 8%+ off in 2008. So with that being said you have a lot of room to negotiate. We got our 2007 3400RL with almost every extra you could want for $46,000. Good luck.

Good advice from everyone. Not much I can add except that we purchased a 2008 Big Sky for under 50K. The options we added were at approximate dealer cost. I think our cost was appx 36% under MRSP. You are definetly in the driver's seat with the RV industry hurting.

Love this forum. I Googled "Montana 3400RL MSRP", and as far as I can tell the MSRP seems to run from $58k to $69k, so using the reductions in price from your responses, I now have a good starting place. Plus I have a bunch of dealers within 500 miles or so that I will follow up with. The kicker of course is the trade-in value of our 3295RK, so we'll go from there.
Thanks for all the great responses.

I think I got screwed on my purchase last week after reading all of this. I could have had a big sky for what I paid. I still love my unit though reguardless of the cost.

Keep in mind, all dealers do not option their inventory the same. Also, freight charges are up as are fuel prices All types of RV are not down; MH's and Fold-downs are down. Mid to upper end TT's and 5W's are about the same or up. Kerry
