G614 Tires

Checked the pressure on the G614 tires on my 3580RL Big Sky this morning and set them on 100 psi. While reading the logo on the tires I noticed the word in big print "REGROOVEABLE" has anyone had this done on worn G614 tires?

My understanding from researching 614's is the tire life recommendations from Goodyear (5-7 years) will expire before the tread does. Granted this may not apply to those who have experienced edge wear as reported on the forum. I can say that after two years of limited use, my 614's still appear as new with regards to the tread. Keep in mind though, this is probable not typical, since we usually only travel about 5,000 miles per year at most. Personally, I don't think I would be too comfortable with "regrooved" tires.

I agree fully with Bingo. No noticeable wear on ours and they've been from Indiana to Arizona and back three straight years with a good number of extra miles in New Mexico and Texas. I don't keep track of the miles on the trailer because they will get to old before they will wear out. Like Bingo they're too important for me to run on retreads.

After I made the post I just had to know what a dealer would say so I called my local tire shop I have delt with for 30 years. He told me all Goodyear commerical tires have that printed on them. He said he has G614 tires on his own RV and would never regroove a tire for his RV.

Will the G614 work on a 2014 3150RL. I was wondering about the clearance
It has GY maypop 235/80/16 on it now. If I purchase the unit I have requested to have the GY g614 which are 235/85/16. Just wondering if any one with. 3150rl has mde this upgrade

Don't have your trailer, but I believe everyone has the same size Marathons from the factory and many different rigs have gone 614's with no clearance problems. If anyone has had problems I've never heard of it. If Keystone offers it as an option they're for sure going to fit.

Does the stock wheel/rim work with the 614? Can it handle the extra tire pressure?

Rigs built since 2010 and many of the 2010's including ours have wheels strong enough for the 614's.

I'm with most others here. Even though you can retread these tires, I won't risk my rig,
I'll replace with new. The 614'are just downsized tractor-trailer tires. I have had tire failures on tractor trailers over the last 35 years using retreads, and often there is damage, ala the same that happens to the Montana's with marabombs. So when it is my money, I'll just stay with the new ones. IMHO.

I know the 614's work on stock rims for 2008 3400RL. The previous owner of my Monte had just installed them prior to my purchase (I am so lucky).

I have a 2008 3000RK which has a Gvw as per factory of 14160 with a net of 10100. As I need new rubber would the G614 be over kill for my unit?

A couple of months ago I asked a friend, who runs a tire store, about the regroovable aspect of the G614. I asked if it is worthwhile and cost effective. His answer was probably not. He said they can only add about 2/32 to the tread, which is not really very much. He didn't know the cost but was very doubtful it would be cost effective. Maybe I'll check into it when we get low on tread but at three years+ and a bit over 20k miles on the tires, it's looking like they'll exceed the age limit before the useful tread life is gone.

Regrooving and retreading are 2 different things. Although for most the tire will be outdated before either could be preformed. Don't bad mouth retreads until you check the modern technology over the past 5-10 years, as it has come a long way and the cap is applied the same as a new tire on a good carcass that has been x-rayed.

Just returned from Alaska with our G614's. 8,960 TOUGH miles. The G614's showed no obvious wear. I can't say the same for the truck tires. I probably left 1/2 of my tire life in the Yukon and BC on their very rough "chip sealed" roads. This is our second set of G614's, changed the first set at 5 years. I personally believe this is the best trailer tire I have every had. Also I can't remember the last time I needed to add air. With my Pressure Pro I run then at 100 PSI COLD.

Late to reply on this topic. We had almost 9000 miles on our original E rated Marathon tires. Looked new little tread ware, but I got spooked before this last trip. Bought G614 and after 10,000 miles they look new. I noticed the sides don't have much tread anyway, perhaps by design? They held presure and gave me more confidence. FYI I got $450.00 for the E rated tires on craigslst. Told them why I took them off, was very upfront about them and showed them my RV, first guy bought them, said they were way better than the tires he had! ! I will say this, I saw lots of pretty sad looking trailer tires on this last cross country trip! People do take chances!
