Satelite internet frustration
Don't know if this belongs here since it is not an on the road problem. We have Hughes satelite internet at the stick house. After the winter snow and ice this week, we had no signal for five days. The dish was covered with ice. Yesterday the last of the ice melted off of the dish and we finally started to receive a signal. Now, whenever we are on the internet, we get normal use for a few seconds and then it locks up for a few seconds, if we click on the mouse during the lock up, the screen goes white for a few seconds, then everything returns to normal only to repeat the process. The few seconds varies from 10 to 30 seconds.
Hughes diagnostics says that the system is functioning properly and that the problem must be the computer security. Nothing has been changed on the computer since the storm. All non-internet programs work properly. Only internet access is affected. Rebooting doesn't help.
I am not a computer guru and don't know what to try next. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. FYI, I experieced six lock up cycles typing this message.

We haven't had this problem, but here are a few things to try, based on the fact that your system was in some severe weather.
As a matter of technique, make sure the antenna hasn't moved or parts haven't loosened. Also, check the signal strength and the cross-polarization values. You should make note of what the typical, and acceptable, values are for your location and satellite.
Make sure you undo all connectors that were subject to the weather, including the one that is on the LNB, even if it was under cover, noting whether they were loose to begin with. Dry them off (a hair dryer will do the job) and reconnect them. Don't snug them down too tightly, but make sure the cable does not wiggle or turn. The connectors should be the weatherproof type, not the standard ones you find inside on the tv cable.
If they were loose or damp, then I would suggest using some of the rescue tape, a self-fusing silicon rubber tape, to wrap the connectors after you put everything back together again. That will keep the moisture out and prevent them from loosening with vibration (although I hope your stick house doesn't have that kind of problem).
Also check the cables for any damage.

Here's one more thing that Sharon suggested. Make sure that no moisture got into the horn of the LNB (past that clear plastic cover). She said she had read about that problem on one of the forums. And I definitely agree that the RVInternetbysatellite forum is a good place to check.

Maybe try going back to a time before the satelite went down in your back up recovery program maybe something got realigned in your boot up when it went down.
