Summertime AC-Low, High, or Auto Fan

Anyone with Texas Summer Heat experience...
What setting should you set the Fan Speed to for most efficient mode...auto, high, or low? Also, what temperature should the thermostat be set at during the day while we're at work in order to maintain a coolness in the 5'er while it is is unoccupied with all window blinds closed? That way when we get home and turn it down a couple of degrees it will make it feel real comfortable and cool. Thank you in advance for your replies.

Being close to Ft.Worth you are certainly living in a very hot part of the state. I set my thermostat to auto. I would buy me an thermometer and sit it on the kitchen counter or somewhere close to the middle of the rv. Set your thermostat at 72 or 74 and see how it compares to the thermometer on the counter. It's hard to say what to set you thermostat to until you get a good idea how accurate it is. I would think your thermostat is off 4 to 6 degrees if like most rv's. Just don't let your rv get so hot that your a/c is having a hard time playing catch-up. Texas heat is relentless . Sometimes it doesn't get below 80 degrees at night in Houston.

AC setting

When we bought a Jayco a few years back - the tech told me he never takes his AC off of high fan and set as cold as it will go. I have stuck with that philosophy ever since.

We were in east tx this past weekend for a family visit. Saturday afternoon I set both ACs to HI and put the number setting down to 65. I have both living room vents pointing toward the ceiling fan and we had the fan going. It was mid 90s outside and we were comfortable watching TV. While we were away from trailer I set it to AUTO and set the temp to 68 - did not want it to get hot while we were gone because I don't yet know how quickly it would recover when we got back. The ceiling fan does not exactly move much air but I figure it might distribute the cold air in the living room. I have never been a fan ( pardon the pun) of hugger ceiling fans. Wish there was something I could do to improve it.

We like to sleep cold! First night I set the bedroom AC to high and set it on 62. The living room AC was set to high and 65. I have both bedroom vents pointing to the headboard. We chose not to use the quilted bedspread and went with light covers. We FROZE! Second night I set both ACs to 64 with fan on high. We added the quilted bedspread. We were comfortable. From here on for summer nights I will set both to low 60's and leave both on high.

We had some warm nights back in March and I had the thing set to AUTO. We hated the thing cycling on and off all night long. I prefer it blowing steady ice cubes on HI all night long.

Auto mode works well for us,,, until the mid to hi 90s, then just leave it on high.

We have one that works fine on auto, but the livingroom one must be on high during the day or it will freeze up.

I tend to use low here in AZ because it is quieter. With our very low humidity the a/c is much more efficient - secret is keeping blinds down to keep the hot sun out during the day.

We're in Kansas and the thread came from Texas so they'll freeze up in a minute on low in the humidity we have with our 100 degree heat.

We leave it on auto and that works for us. These Rv' are not that well insulated considering the high temps they may be subjected to. We have measured up to 124 degrees on the outside gel coat of this pretty dark colored Big Sky and 90 degrees on the inside walls in very hot temps. The A/C s work fine good flow and proper output temps.

I use auto all the time. I any fan mode when the compressor cycles off the fan will still be drawing in out side air.

We keep ours in auto, but start cooling early in the morning before it gets to hot. At night we run the bedroom fan continuously in low fan mode only.

The RV AC unit is not designed to bring in out side air Just recirculates. Fan draws in air through the return across the cold evaporator coil then back out the vents.
