Extended warranty for a Ford Superduty....

The end of the warranty is near on my 2006 F250 (March, 2012 or 75,000 miles). The truck is at a little over 65,000 miles so I'm trying to figure out what to do in about 4 months or less and I'm curious what others have done, besides buy a new TV (that's not an option, I gotta keep the one I have for a few years more).

The dealer has a plan where I could get 3 years/36,000 miles additional for $3,200? Does this sound high, or just right? Are there other warranty provides others can recommend for me to check out? Any other ideas aside from NO warranty coverage?

I should say, that I currently have a bumper to bumper plan now and the price above reflects the same. Have others converted to just Diesel engine/trans and drive train?

I just got a plan from Warranty Direct for my 2003 Chevy. It has 120K on it. The coverage is for another 100K or 5 years and covers all mechanical. It ran about $2400.00. I got it after a $6600.00 bill for injectors and water pump that would have cost me a $100.00 deductable with the plan.

For every person who will tell you an extended warranty saved them $$$$$, there are ten who didn't profit. They wouldn't sell them if they didn't make money off of them. Since extended warrantees started being offered, I have several vehicles that exceeded the factory warranty mileage, but only one that required a major repair. Even on that one, the repair was less than the warranty would have cost. Take the money and stick in the bank.

Seems high to me as well. when the warranty was about to expire on my previous TV I went to the dealer in April 07 and got a 7 year top of the line extended warranty for $1700.00. It just about paid for itdelf this past summer when it paid out $1200.00 just to get the AC repaired. Tim

Get on the Internet and shop around, I found a cheaper policy in another state somewhere at a Ford dealer, I took it to my dealer and asked him to beat it, and I would sign up on the spot. He did...I did..
I got about 6 quotes, I think the one I got was found on the Ford Diesel Forum...not the actual name. CRS time..

I was going to say the same thing. If you are a regular at your dealer,go talk with them about a discount on the coverage. Most of thet money is dealer profit.

Art - Here is a recent discussion about extended warranty costs on the Ford Truck Enthusiast web site. That is a great site for anything Ford truck related. Your number sounds high.
Basically, you are buying an insurance policy. And like all insurance policies, if you need it, it is great. If not, it is money gone. And they take in far more money than they give out.

In my opinion, you want an official Ford warranty, not something else. That said, e-shopping is the way to go. As has been said, at least to get something to bargain with at the dealer of your choice. If they won't meet it, do it on line. If it is a Ford ESP, it will be good at any Ford dealer no questions asked. As with any coverage, read the exclusions as well as the benefits.

Seems like that may be about what I paid for ESP on my 08, but that was bumper to bumper, all inclusive, no deductible, out to 125000 miles or 7 years.

Wow, great advice from all so far.... Just like everyone who makes a decision, my decision is to HAVE an extended warranty on my Ford 6.0. If I don't have a problem and never need it, then they deserve the money, and I've succeeded in spreading out the cost of ownership. But when I need it and can use it, THAT's when it pays for itself and then some. The quote I got was a first time visit to my service dealer who wants to get some money out of me. I know I can do better, and it's better to get help with other experienced members on my side of the Market than on their side.

You folks are saving me a boatload of time where to look and this is what I was hoping for. I went from being completely ignorant to having a wealth of information in about 10 minutes of reading. This is the benefit of forums and why we all enjoy using them.

Sam as Ozz says. I wanted to stay with the Ford warranty. Searched on-line and got my best price. Visited my local Ford dealer and they matched "no problem"

I went with 2 more years on my 2005. My price was much lower as my 2005 only has 52,000 miles. Number of miles is a component in the price.

There are some things the ESP will not cover. If your high pressure pump goes out and there is any rust or dirt in it your insurance will not cover the damage which could exceed $8000. Your new vehicle warranty will not cover the damage. Be careful.

Purchased the FORD ESP premium plan. You can shop around for a good price. You might wnat to ask your dealer what the cost would be for the high $$ items that might fail.

we developed a water leak. Took the truck to the Ford dealership this AM. They did a pressure check on the cooling system and the radiator leaks like a sieve. New radiator going in.It is covered by the ESP less deductible. This single repair bill will be more than we paid for the ESP. Think of the labor bill alone.

Rich, be sure you are getting CERTIFIED STOCK replacement radiator, this is a common failure on your model, and many of the radiators are old-new stock, and the side crimps are faulty, only those manufactured after 8/6/2007 are certified.

does the extended warranty require all scheduled maintenance per your ford manual be performed by a ford dealer?...what if you skipped a scheduled maintenance procedure in the last 3 or 4 years...say a transmission check...is it gonna be covered next year if it were to fail and leave you on the roadside?....or is Ford gonna say..sorry, you did not do scheduled maintenance...just a question...thinking since my warranty runs out in november...

I am not sure but I will bet they do...we have all our maint done by a Ford dealer.No one touches the truck but Ford. All maint is done by Ford and by the schedule.
the truck is in now for a radiator replacement. Dealer called and said I owe them 104.00 tax.ESP paid the rest.With 104.00 it tax the bill must be huge.

The actual repair bill less tax was 1500.00 all covered by the ESP less the tax of course.We paid 1940 for the premimun ESP plan and with this repair and one last year we at least got our money back.
