www.wunderground.com problems

What's up with this site. Servers seem to be totally down and I just realized our temp/weather icons on our signatures are down also. Anyone have any idea why there has been such a massive outage of the popular site???

Also, Fox News website froze up for about 12 hrs yesterday. Strange as I have never seen that happen before. Then there was the recent issue of our avatar site not working correctly.

Seems strange that all this is happening all at once. Maybe we are under attack? Doubtful. Just very strange coincidence.

Dave, they have been down for at least three days, maybe longer but last night I went to a forum for "wunderground" and they said it would be back today but no other info available. I am working on my stuff to accuweather but they want you to do a download. The last time I did a weather download it was really hard to dump and slowed the page down a lot. I hope it comes back soon... Dave P.S. and yayyy we got our avatars back

Dave, it looks like it is back up and working, I got a URL from the forum that did work before the regular URL started working. You may be able to insert it in the code for your signature in place of the regular URL... Dave P.S. forgot to leave the url, here it is http://64.243.174.104/ open it, add your zip and save it to the code in the signature.

Dave,
Yes! The United States infrastructure is constantly under attack. As a former Information Security Specialist for a Government entity I can say that many countries try to break into the infrastructure through the internet. However, their targets are pretty specific and I don't think the MOC forum would qualify in their hacking circles.

BUT, the script kiddies will hack anything they can get into and brag about. It is how they learn how to break into bigger fish. So the answer would be that it is possible, and most likely coincidental, that FOX, weather sites, and even MOC was hit by a hacker. We will never know because one thing that is not done is to confirm that a hack has taken place. Most corporations (and intenet providers) do not want the other hackers to know they are vulnerable. It's not good business.

We are back up and running. Been out and about all day. When I got back wunderground was functioning properly. Interesting. I use that site daily for about 8-9 yrs and I have never had an outage. Can happen to anyone though.

Fox News was an interesting situation. It just never updated from an ~11 AM page until late that night. All afternoon and that night the lead headline was the 1:30 PM announcement expected from President Bush on the lifting of the executive ban on offshore drilling. All the other stories remained frozen in time also. Weird.

Plus our avatars weren't working. Everything at once. Everything back to normal now, though... so far.
