After Quartzsite 2007

This information is for EVERYONE. Anyone interested in tagging along with whatever part of the Quartzsite group heads further south you are ALL welcome. We believe in "The more the merrier". So if you don't have any hard and fast plans come along with the Quartzsite Vagabonds.

Here's the way we see things so far:

[ Q=4 nights]
Q and area....... Camp with good friends.; Make new friends; tour the exhibits at Q once or twice. Have a "get together Pizza dinner" . Then move on. (It is 217 miles to OP)

We will be at Quartzsite January 19 thru 22.

[OP=2 nights] January 23 and 24
Organ Pipe area....... Lot of picture taking and hiking and looking at beautiful desert scenery. Possible day trip to Puerto Penasco. Just drive down and look around and have dinner and drive back. It is about 60 miles one way from Organ Pipe to Puerto Penasco. Good road the whole way except for a few blocks in first little town we come to. (OP to Tucson is 163 miles)

[Tucson=4 nights] January 25 thru 28
Tucson area....... Much to do here. First we can dry camp again at the Desert Diamond Indian Casino just south of Tucson. They have snack food type service as well as a very nice restaurant. Parking lot is paved and lighted. And they have a lot of security.
Things to do: Visit the nearby world famous Mission Sam Xavier . Takes about an hour or two.
There is a missile exhibit near the Casino to tour.
Visit the world class Tucson wildlife Museum. It is very nice. Half a day or longer for this one.
Visit the missile museum just south of the Casino. Half a day.
They have huge flea markets and Gem show here. They are huge!
North of city they have the world famous Biosphere.
And of course there is just the regular old run of the mill every day MALL SHOPPING! (Tucson to Tombstone is 70 miles)

[Tombstone=3 nights] January 29 30 and 31
Tombstone area...... Beautiful scenery. Take in all the exhibits and museums etc..... half a day at least..... probably all day.
Bisbee...../ Douglas....... Day trip down to visit and tour. (Tombstone to Columbus is 198 miles)

[Columbus=2 nights] February 1 and 2
Columbus NM area...... Visit the museum tour the botanical garden. Visit Columbus. About 15 miles north is an area where you dig for jewels. Don't know how much it costs but sounds like fun.
Mary Kay knows someone who swears by the Mexican food in a PINK restaurant within walking distance of our CG at the Pancho Villa SP. So we'll have to cross into Mexico just to taste the food. (Columbus to El Paso is 72 miles)

[El Paso=4 nights] February 3 thru 6
El Paso and surrounding area. We can go north east and hit the White Sands area as a day trip. Of course there is always more shopping. General sight seeing would be in order .... I've not spent any time in this area ever. Don't think we want to venture into Mexico from this area as they are having some major drug wars going on. So we need to avoid those. If anyone has something they want to do in this area just let us know. (El Paso to CC is 157 miles)

[Carlsbad Caverns=2 nights] February 7 and 8
Carlsbad Caverns are the main attraction here so the 2 day should give us plenty of time. (CC to Magdalena is 286)

[Roswell=short stop on to Magdalena=2] February 9 and 10
On our way to Magdalena we can stop for a few hours in Roswell and check in with the real aliens from outer space. Then on to Magdalena. There are some sites to see in this area but we'll have to decide as we go as to whether or not we want to stop. (Magdalena to Petrified Forrest is 192 miles)

[Petrified Forrest=3 Nights] February 11 12 13
Petrified Forrest area has some gift shops located at south end of park. Apparently if you buy things from them you get a reduced or free stay with your rig. As I understand it there are some full hookups. Or partial ones. But at least they are right near the park and sound reasonable. The park is a minimum of one day if you do any hiking and I know several of you would love to do that. We may have an extra day built in at this point. (PF to Seligman is 190 miles)

[Seligman=1 or 2 nights] February 14 and 15
This will be part of the Historic Route 66 tour. Along this stretch of road we will also be able to visit the Meteor Crater. Partake of the nostalgia of the "Mother Road". Kingman would be the end of that stretch of road. Might be interesting to visit old town Kingman. The new stuff is all just what you see everywhere. (Seligman to Laughlin is 124 miles)

[Laughlin= 2 nights] February 16 and 17
Gambling in Laughlin. What else is there? Well actually some nice restaurants. Lots of water...... The Colorado River makes a nice sight as background for the casinos.

At this point we have a major fork in the road ....... For those that must or want to get on back home then this is a good jumping off point. Doug and Sharon will probably already have left us as we leave the Petrified Forrest . That should give them time to get back on their scheduled time. For anyone that did not also leave when they did and are still on the "tour"....... From Laughlin we plan to head north to Pahrump, NV. Spend some time there and then head into Death Valley. It is good time of year to be in the valley as it will not be too warm. But it might be a bit crowded. But it is large enough that one can find a place somewhere where you won't be stepping into your neighbors rig. It is an exhilarating place.

We will stay until we get tired of it or we run out of money. From there we'll head on west to Lone Pine. Stay at a CG just south of town called The Boulders or something like that. Nice CG ..... gravel with trees. Mostly pull thrus. Pretty good spaces. Great view of Mt. Whitney. Just a few miles away you can drive a road half way up the mountain. You get some nice views even from this lowly point!

So there are the suggestions........ The floor is open!

So if any of this interests you and or you have some suggestions to offer please let us know. We hope you will join us for all or part of our little adventure. It's all good!

See you soon.

Wow, that is tempting, Dennis. We may have to tag along for a few days. We'll know more later after we find a place to stay in Phoenix. Sounds like you need to start you're own RV touring company!

Ooh, that sounds like fun!!! Mel will only be home from work for about 13 days in in Jan and we only planned on a few days in QSite, but maybe we can extend our plans for few days and tag along at least to Tucson. I subscribed to this thread so it will without doubt show up on our email and he can see it when he checks his email from on the boat at work. We'll see....It all sounds like too much fun to miss. Thanks for the invites!

Dennis , we will be in Quartzsite about the 10th of Jan. We will have all of January and part of February to join you on your tour. I assume you are going to be at your Palmsa Road spot. We will be down on Scaddan Wash--5 Washes out Red Rock Road. Give us a call 509-251-2932. Would love to get together for the pizza dinner. Dave and Kelly
