Carpet pad
We have a 2007 Montana 3500RL. I noticed the carpet was damp in the rear corner by the fresh water filler. So, I removed the cover and found the source. The sealant around the filler frame had a very small opportunity for water entry. Now I pulled the carpet back to dry it and found what I would call the cheapest and worst padding available for the "ARTIC PACKAGE" units. It is about 1/4" thick yellow type used in furniture. Water acumulated in floor area so I absorbed what I could and then used a hair dryer to dry the rest. You would be surprised how the water wicked back in the unsulation in the floor area. I am surprised as time goes by how many areas Keystone used to cut corners. Next summer, new carpet and deffinetly new double barrier padding.

Welcome to the world of RVing where each manufacturer tries to compete by saving money on what you can't see them doing.

Be a bit careful about changing to a thicker carpet and padding, it may put you in a position of having to do some slide adjustments. If you are aware you are way ahead of the game.

Campers are built as cheap as they can make them look good.

I agree with Carol. If you add a better, thicker pad, you may have problems with the slides.

I had the same problem in the way of a leak but only because I had to replace my complete unit there to fill the H2O tank and the city hookup! The valve in the city fill broke and had to replace the whole unit! It didn't leak till I reinstalled the lines and didn't get one of the clamps tight enough. Luckily it didn't get a lot of water in on the carpet and pad. I have had a leak in one of the slides and that did get a whole lot of carpet and pad wet. Had to stick something under the carpet and padding and keep a fan and heater going on it for over a day to dry it out AFTER I dabbed up as much as possible with towels.
The padding is cheap but as others have said watch what you do if you put new carpet and pad inside. There isn't much clearance between the slides and the carpet as it is and adding a thicker pad and carpet can cause some real problems. The padding under the carpet is not part of the winter package it's just normal padding on the Monte and actually any other RVs. They just don't put the top of the line padding in these things!
