After the Balloon Festival??

I am planning a fall trip thru New Mexico--Carlsbad, Gallup, Grants--starting around October 12 for about 3 weeks. Since the Balloon Festival is over Oct 11--can I expect the RV Parks in that area of New Mexico to be full or crowded? Any tips on when the RVers at the Festival leave the state??

Tim and Susan,
I would assume that other than some local celebrations that might fill up the local CGs you should have no trouble. We have not been in that area during the time frame mentioned but we were there in February and had no trouble finding a place.

Of course the fact that there will be several thousand RVers attending the Balloon Festival and many of them may be going to the same places you want to go might make a difference!

If you are going to spend that much time in NM you may want to purchase the annual pass for their parks. We have stayed in several of their CGs and love them!

Good luck and enjoy.

We did the same thing 2 years ago, there were no problems getting into any campground. The season is over with, schools in session, plenty of space but not all campgrounds are open. We just winged it.

Went to the balloon festival one time in Albuquerque, seems like the next morning after it was over, the last one to leave the park was a rotten egg. This was how it went in the park we were in. We went some other places in the state and had no problems finding places to put in.
