Hello all!

As of July 1 we will have rented our condo in Alexandria, VA and moved into our new Big Sky for a two-year full time adventure.

Our first adventure will be a trip to Colquitt, GA for a family reunion. We will have stops along the way to visit family in COLUMBIA, SC and ATLANTA, GA.

If anyone has information on campgrouds in COLUMBIA and ATLANTA we'd appreciate your input.

Jo-Anna, there are Corp of Engineers campgrounds around Atlanta in really beautiful settings if you like a more natural setting. And they're half price for folks over 62, if you qualify. Have fun on your adventure!

If the COE doesn't work out, there's a nice rv park out at Lake Sidney Lanier, too, north of Atlanta, too.

Hi, hope you are enjoying your Big Sky. Our Daughter In Law and family just got transferred to Shaw AFB, SC (closest large town is Columbia). We have been trying to locate campgrounds nearby ever since. We found a couple that welcome "big rigs" and offer full service and pull throughs. One is Columbia/Camden RV Park www.columbia-camden-rv-park.com (this one wasn't listed in Woodalls, found it by accident through Google) "located between Columbia, and Camden, SC in Lugoff". Another is BarnYard RV Park (and Flea Market???) "Just minutes from Downtown Columbia". Woodalls gives it a 4* rating??? There are also lots of State Parks, etc. but none will take a 40' rig. There was another one at Eutawville, although this is quite a ways southeast of Columbia, which is , Rocks Pond Campground and Marina www.rockspond.com We obviously haven't been to any of them yet, but this is the info we've found so far. If you visit one of these, before October, would you let us know what your opinion is/was? We'll be visiting the area in October (our son and grandkids have lived with us for the past 6 months while Mom went to Basic Training and Tech School in TX, so we figured to give them some time to settle in before we visit).

We have camped often at Lake Wateree State Park near Winnsboro, SC. It is very nice and heavily wooded though the roads are easy to navigate. It has fully paved sites and is big rig friendly. Some sites are extraordinarily deep and can accomodate a 40' fiver and a tow vehicle with room to spare. It is more of a "relaxation park" since there is not much to do there except go fishing or walk the nature trail (which I recommend).

However, it may not be close enough to Columbia for your liking. It is a few miles off of I-77 at Exit 41. The website says the distance to Columbia is 35 miles.

Our favorite around Atlanta is McKenney Campground, a COE park about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta. Most sites overlook Lake Alatoona, and have water and electric hookups (no sewer). You will probably need a reservation, particularly on weekends.
Georgia's state park campgrounds are also very good.

Bob is correct. The Georgia State Parks are especially nice.

Ditto on Lake Wateree State park, loved it. Stayed there while visiting Grandson at SCU.

Depending on which way you're headed after the family reunion, a very nice trip is up the coast from Savannah/Tybee Is. on 17 to Beaufort, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and New Bern, NC. Each is worth exploring for a few days and the drive is very relaxing. Sounds like a new adventure is about to begin?!!!!
