Visiting Savannah Ga
We will be heading back north from sunny Zephyrhills Fl. at the end of March and would like to visit the beautiful city of Savannah Ga. Can someone suggest any rv parks in or near the area. We would probably stay for a couple nights before moving on....any info would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at Rivers End CG on Tybee Island. We just left there 3/1. Winter rates there are reasonable but as of 3/1 they're on summer rates. $300/week is a bit steep in my book.
I would highly recommend Skidaway Island State Park. This is a beautiful park. I believe they have full hookups but you might ask that question to be sure.

We just left savannah a few weeks ago, very beautiful and NO BUGS this time of year! We liked Fort McAllister state park, it has water , electric, the senior price is $16.00 per night. its just a little ways south of savannah but easy to get there. If you go there , site 2, and 4 the best (pullthrus) and dish friendly .
Steve, we were there just a couple weeks before you, 2/11 thru 2/19, but we left you some vittles at paula deens and uncle Bubbas, and if you didnt get to Mrs Wilks boarding house resturant be sure to include it next time!

thanks for the info. We are planning a stopover on our way home. Sounds like a lot of great eateries... Can you tell me which campground is closest to the Savannah sites. we want to take a tour of the city and get the most in a short period. thanks for any advise. Will definetely try some of those places. Diane

Diane, Dennis , Fort McAllister is approx 10 to 15 miles from downtown Savannah but easy to get there. the campground has a website. it was also a confederate fort, and they have restored it to just the way it was. Hope this helps, and like steve said be sure to see tybee Island and the lighthouse. also uncle bubbas (paula deens brother) oyster house is a right on the way. and the downtown is great! you can part at the visitor center for free, take a walking tour or ride the trolly or , Dennis to get in a few good points with diane take her on a horse drawn surry tour! lol.

And if possible, you will want to stay more than a couple of nights. It is a great city. You will find a bunch of pictures on our website from around Thanksgiving time last November.

We stayed at Skidaway Island State Park for two weeks two years ago and it is a very nice park with large sites, good location. No sewer. A very nice, natural setting.

Thanks to everyone for the info. isnt this MOC site a great place. It's like having friends all over the country. We will truly enjoy seeing all the city has to offer. We have always gone by on our way back to Ontario and no time to stop. We are also going to stop in Myrtle Beach for a few days to see a few shows. Then home for tax season... Thanks all.

At Skidaway the sites all have water, electric and basic cable. There is a dump station. By using the Truman Parkway you are about 10 minutes from downtown. Take a guided trolly tour and get the layout. You will want to stay more than two days. In July we paid $22.20 but that included the park entrance fee. You only pay that once per stay.
The first loop has 50 amp service and I believe some of the rest of the sites do as well. Most of the sites are pull thrus, the kind that are sort of comma shaped

I wish we'd known you were there. We were on Tybee from Jan 15 to Mar 1. And we visited Fort McAlister, although it was on 2/8, just before you arrived.
