Axles vs Brakes

As I continue to wade through the mound of manuals/instructions/directions/ etc, that came with the rig, a new question has arisen. I have a manual for Dexter axles and brakes...and a manual for AL-Ko brakes. The axles are Dexter (I pulled the Dexter sticker off), but who makes the brakes? It makes sense that Dexter would since they make the axles, but then why is there an AL-KO brake manual in my stack of stuff?

AL-KO used to make the axles for Montanas. They went to Dexter, which is a better axle in 2005. A lot of AL-Ko axles were not bent the proper way in 2004 and the Montanas with them had tobe taken in and rebent. The tires were wearing in the inside. Our 2003 Montana had AL-Ko axles on it and we had no problems. Friends of ours also had a 2003 Big Sky Montana and it came with Dexter. Our 2005 has Dexter on it. The brakes I guess are from Dexter. In the plant, they were all stacked in the same place complete before being attached to the frame.

Both Montys that I have had both manuals included also. I looked on the axle on the present unit and noted that I have Dexter also. The brake backing plate has Dexter marked on them. I believe that Alko has a metal band around the axle.
To answer your question, I belive it is just expeditious to include both manuals.

If you go to the Dexter website you will see that the axles come with brakes. In fact, I was told by a Dexter person that it is the brakes that in fact make the difference in the weight rating of the axles. The 7,000 axles have essentially the same mechanical hardware as the 6,000 axles except they come with larger brakes.

I crawled under there and looked today...the brakes have "Dexter" stamped on them. So I guess the AL-KO brake manual in my stack of stuff is just there to confuse me (it worked).

Cannot speak to a heavier brake on the 7000 vs 6000 AlKo Kobler, however, Al tells me that there is a difference in the axle itself, The 7000 has a thicker wall to the tube and the spring hangers have a different distance between them. Also the 6000 has 6 lugs, the 7000 has 8 lugs.

(My disclaimer, you know the routine, first cup of java of the day and Al is at his mom's so I cannot verify this, but, I am bout 80% sure I got it right ! )
