Slideout Flexible Plastic Cable Hanger

My wife noticed one of the flexible plastic cable hangers drooping down below the slide and when I looked it had fatigue cracked and broken where it attached to the slide. I crawled under the other slides and on the living room slide I saw it was just about broken too! Anyone have the same problem and can I get new ones from Keystone.....and if so who do I call?

I used pieces cut from a semi truck mud flap to fix ours. Either way works.

I used 4 inch galvanized gate hinges with 4 screws each side and then, the piece de resistance, spray painted with black, anti rust, Krylon paint. (Just in case someone should look at them)....

I'm going to carry a bailer belt or maybe two along with me from this point on just incase this happens to me! I can always pick up the hinges at a local hardware store if need be but the bailer belts will be even more flexible than the original equipment and all I need to do is drill the holes to match.

Stainless door hinge here. Also heard that you can cut all the way through when they start to crack, drill matching holes and use plastic ties. Haven't tried this one, but sounds like it might work.

Mine broke when I was in a campground. Didn't have a hinge, but I had a piece of 20 ga metal stud in the back of my truck. I fashioned a piece of flat stock, pop rivited it in place as a tempory fix. Two years later it's still working!! When it shows signs of fatigue, I'll replace it with a hinge.

Some months ago I noticed a crack in mine on the living room slide. I took a 1/4 inch drill and drilled a "stop crack" hole at the end of the crack. So far it is still working and has cracked no further. I do have a pair of 4 inch hinges that I have had for a year for just this situation but until the "stop crack" fails I will keep the hinges ready... Dave

Yes, I put the hinges on about a year ago. The whole design of the flexible strap is not done well with a pivot point at one end and the other end fixed. I wonder when Keystone will put a pivot at the other end???? Maybe never!

Those straps are not unique to Keystone, I noticed a brand new Cardinal with the same strap, and the same problem. Mine have hung in this long, but I am now prepared to do the fix when it becomes necessary.

Ours also are still ok but after the rash of this problem a couple of years ago I bought a set of gate hinges and bolts. I won't install them until needed because I'd heard the newer rigs had modified mounting that might reduce or eliminate the problem. However, av2pilot's signature shows he has the same year and model Montana as us. So I best make sure I remember where those hinges are.

Yep, just had the same thing happen on my 2955RL the other day while traveling. I drilled matching holes on both sides of the break, then used 5 large plastic ties to connect the two halves, leaving a 2" loop. Now it opens and closes easily and the flex tie "loops" act as a hinge AND support. Intended it as a "temp" fix, but works SO well, don't think I will ask for trouble by replacing the part so it can do it again!

I agree with condor as that happened to me on a trip and all I did was use the plastic ties. They have held up so far for over 6k miles but do realize this is only a temp fix but is holding up well. I do have the hinges for a better day and time to use.
