Thousand Trails

I have just retired and we are planning to travel around the country.
Has anybody purchased Thousand Trails or Choice Camping or similar orgganization? Are they worth the money and does it pay off if you travel alot? What condition are the camp grounds?
Any info would be helpful
Thanks Mark

You'll get a thousand (no pun intended) different opinions here. Those that have the TT membership like it. Those that don't won't. We have it and make good use of it. In a 5-year period of use we have more than paid for our membership. You don't need to buy a new membership (we did). Just look in Highways, Trailer Life, Escapees Magazine, and other RV publications and you'll find all kinds of used memberships available for really discounted prices. In some cases all they want is a token fee and you pay the minimal transfer fee--a great bargain. When we find that we will no longer be able to travel we will put ours up for sale for little or nothing.

Hi Mark,

I couldn't agree more with Orv. ( It happens a lot). We have been with Coast to Coast for 6+ years now and have saved a good amount of $. We use their parks about 40/50 days a year. If your not using a Membership for 30+ days a year it hard to justify.

A word of caution here, some Camping Memberships have it in their fine print, that you are respondsible for dues for the rest of your life wether you use them or not. In other words you can't just quit. The only way out is to hire a Lawyer and buy your way out. Please make sure you check for that one. I also would look for a Home Park that has its annual dues that are fixed for life. We did and our dues are still $49 a year.

The "Coast to Coast" parks have both good and bad. Some we have crossed of our list, because their just not very good quality anymore. Most are 3 to 4 on a 5 scale.

There's a Campground Membership Outlet in FL. which is how we got ours. They are great Folks and were very trustworthy. Here's their PH# and web site in case you want to check out C2C. If they should ask our Membership number is, 1195087.

We also use Passport America. You can check it out at, www.passportamerica.com our Member No. there is C-340495

Most of all "CONGRATULATIONS" on your Retirement. It's a great life.

Happy Travels
