Montana High Country tires

We recently had two blow outs with Power King Tow Max ST 235/80 R 16 tires on our second trip out with our first Montana. After reviewing the forum and having conversations with several helpful people, we went to Goodyear to see about having the Gy 614 tires installed. Apparently, these can't be installed on the High Country due to rim size and psi being restricted to 80 pounds. Could any of the High Country owners out there please suggest the best tire for a trailer of this weight? We are getting information about Michelin. We would really appreciate your help.

What type of rims do you have? Describe them.

According to Keystone, the rims were made by TredIt. We called TredIt and they said the rims are 6 lug rims restricted to 80 psi. To chane the tires to the larger size, the axles would also have to be changed.

Well then, your best choices would be a light trk tire. Many here use Michlin and Firestone, Bridgestone, Goodrich. The brands have been thoroughly discussed here. Research tires here. Also I'm sure others will be along to chip in.

Have a look at Goodyear G949's. I've had worry free travel with them now for about 10K miles. It's the steel sidewall construction that sold me. They're an 80lb. maximum inflation tire.

I've got Maxxis 8008s on mine, 80 lbs and no problems.

Many folks on this forum have had many trouble free miles on LT tires made to carry the weight of your trailer.

Just curious to know at what speed do you tow? Do you know that weight of your loaded rig? Are you critical about keeping the tire pressures at 80 psi?

We have been running Firestone Transforce LTs for years on Montanas with no issues. I do keep close watch on tire pressure and generally run at 65MPH.

The tires in my signature work well for me. The weight on your axles will be the determining factor.

Towmax are a cheap tire that Keystone puts on a lot of towables, so do other manufactures. Replace them with a set of brand name 80 PSI LT tires and you will be happy. I have used LT tires for years and have had great service from them.

We here horror stories about the ST tires but I'm just wondering has anybody had a problem with the LT tires?
You could run the G rated tires at 80 pounds but you would gain nothing in load carrying rating over an LT.

The load carrying capability of the LT is lower than the ST. However, the LTs are much stronger and hold up much better than any of the Chinese made STs.
