My wife and I bought a new 3400 RL but still haven"t bought a pull vehicle. I"m a toolmaker at Ford Motor Co.so I"d prefer an F-350 4 door Diesel long box.can anyone explain the benefits of dual rear wheels over single,4wheel drive over 2 wheel.I know its awfully heavy at 7 ton gross and a pin wheight of nearly a ton.I still have about 5 years to work and i"ll be using it as a commuter vehicle and only part time camp over the summer holidays,but plan to do some extensive hauling after retirement possibly to Mexico"s Baja for some winter boondocking.My wife is also looking for a source of fitted sheets for the round cornered king size bed,any help would be greatly appreciated..........

You can save a half ton by using srw and two-wheel drive. You will save fuel cost too. Parking a dually is also a trip. You will see that many of us are pulling with 3/4 Ton trucks and finding they do the job.

Camping world probably have fitted sheets, but I just take a tuck in the regular ones near the foot of the bed and above the rounded corners of the sheet, and they work fine.

What truck, 3/4 or 1 ton, Dually vs SRW, 2 wd vs 4X4 these are always ongoing discussion. See the post "Moving from 3/4 Ton to Dually - any regrets " for some insight as to what folks are using. Bottom line is what you fell comfortable with and how much you want to spend. Everybody thinks they have the best truck?

Welcome to the Forum, first of all. You picked a great floor model and this is the place to learn more about it. We own a dually, Dodge 3500, that serves us well. It's more than enough for our present Montana and gives us the option of pulling something much heavier if we ever wanted to do so. The stability is reassuring, parking is not difficult and we're glad that we have the dual rear wheels. The F-350 is about as good as it gets.

Some say that duals give you more stability but I've not noticed any instability problems pulling my 36 foot Montana with my F-250 other than payload. I'd opt for the F-350 SRW.

you can get the fitted sheets at most walmarts, and i'm pulling our 3400 with a single tire four wheel drive long box dodge p/u good luck

SRW or Dually—either will do the job. I did not wan a dually because my truck also doubles for around town use, plus it would have made the fir in our garage tnuous at best. An F-350 SRW should do you well as many of us are pulling similar Montanas with the F-250.
As to 4x4, well that probably elicits strong feelings either way. For me it boils down to the same concept as the automatic slider hitch I have in the bed of my truck—a one time insurance policy. The second time we backed the camper into the back yard—after a heavy rain and before our gravel driveway was fully in place—we became stuck. Engaged the 4x4 and the truck came right out. I may only need it every blue moon, but it is there when I need it. And who knows just what situations you might encounter on the open road?

We have a F-350 Crewcab shortbox 4X4 SRW. Just came back from northern California to B.C.
No problem with stability even in the California cross winds.
This was our first long trip with this TV & 2980RL.
Our last TV was a F-350 supercab 4X4 SRW. both have powerstrokes.
The one with the longer wheel base, rides better.
Had no problem with stability in either truck.
Maybe if we were fulltiming it we might go DRW but this one is hard enough to
find parking in the new malls these days, and God knows my wife
can't pass up a good mall.

We just upgraded from a '96 F250 SRW powerstroke to a 2006 F350 crew cab, powerstroke, long bed SRW 4x4. The '96 pulled the 3255RL with no problems and the new one does a great job also. Hubby drove big rigs for a long time and he really likes the new truck with the built in trailer braking system Ford has gone to.
