Air Conditioner short cycles

Front AC set on Auto. It runs fine and no problem with blowing cold air. It will cut off for maybe 10 seconds and then it comes right back on. It does this repeatedly. Temp set at 73, and outside team around 83. Not sure why it is short cycling. Anyone else have this issue before?

Thanks for any input.

Is the fan on auto? If so put it on high and that should work.

Mine does the same thing at 73 when it's in the low 80's?

What do you have the fan set to (auto, high, or low)? Could be unit is close to set point and is transitioning from high to low because of close proximity to set point. Also could be unit has frozen and is thawing itself out.

Mine is normally set to "auto". Will running the fan on low which is all the time make a difference?

I would run it on high as it will be less likely to ice up.

It was set on Auto. Unit is at house getting loaded up for trip next week. Just turned AC off for tonight. I will set it on High tomorrow to test it out. Will update on what is up.

Thanks

I don't think it is short cycling. With the fan set to auto, the fan will switch from high to low as it cools to within a few degrees of the set point. The fan will switch from low to high as the temp warms. This is normal. As others have said, you can avoid this behavior (and a other issues) by setting the fan to high.

I’d remove the two return air grills for that AC unit and use a cell phone camera and take a few pics on both vent ducts...

It sure sounds like you have at least one return duct partially collapsed...occurs quite often ....

If collapsed use a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe cut to length of collapsed duct area and work it up into the duct to open duct back up
