Dumb question

We recently bought our first montana 5th wheel, ours is a 2955 RL it's a 2004. We new we wanted a montana 5th wheel when we returned from our property in Washington about 3 miles from the Canadian Border. And this one came up near us and it was being sold by the origenal owners (A couple in there 70's) Anyway My question Do the model #'s mean anything regarding length?? My boat is a 2455 so it's 24' and 7 or 8" I assumed that my 2955 meant the same thing. So the other day I got out the tape and it's 33' from outside rear to the pin. So do the #'s mean anything?
Thanks, Mel

No question is a dumb question. No, the model # does not tell you the length. Mine is model #3585SA and is 38' long. Welcome to the MOC and feel free to ask anything.

My 3075RL is listed on the Montana specs as 34'-8". But the fine print says the listed length is from the king pin to the rear bumper. So adding a few inches for the pin box in front of the king pin and a few inches at the back for the ladder it grows even more. And if the front cap should extend forward of the front edge of the pin box, add a little more.

Everyone will have to get the measuring sticks out to see if this is correct or not. I believe that the model # has something to do with the floor length inside the unit. If this is so, then the 3075RL will measure 30' inside the unit from the front closet doors to the inside rear wall. The 3585SA will measure 35' inside floor length. I have measured the inside floor length of out 3075RL, & got 30'.

I don't believe the model number is based on any precise measure or formula. What is true is that there is some general correlation between the model number and the length of the trailer, but no more than that. We had a 2955 just as Mel has reported and we called it a 32' which was close enough. We now have a model number 32.5 SOB which measures 33' 10" and we call it a 34' trailer. We have had four fifth-wheels, each of a different brand and our experience is that model number is just that a model number which relates only in a very general way to the size of the trailer. Just what I think, of course.

I agree with lundwc16. My 353RL is 38 foot outside, but my guess is it is 35 ft inside

Generally the number give you an idea of length

About the only thing in the model # you can really relate to something nowadays are the last two letters.

RL...rear living
RK...rear kitchen
FL...front living
RD...rear den
and so on.

I actually called the factory about this one time. They told me that the 29 in the model number was the length of the frame they build on. Our 2955 is 33' long.

Guess you gotta be initiated into the "secret model number society" by drinking the special kool-ade.

The model number to begins with was the square footage. A 2955 had 295 square feet. I had a 2955 and with the slide outs it had about 295 square feet. I don't think they mean anything now.

Mel have you ever taken a measuring tape to your boat? You may be surprised at what you find.

I have a Silverton 310 Express Cruiser. One may think that it is 31' long, but in fact it measures 33' 6" stem to stern. Now if you go RV'ing in a boat to visiting marina or even if you keep your boat in a home marina they will go out and measure every inch of length and charge you according. Does not matter what your model #'s are.

Every manufacturers model numbers seem to be close to what the length is, but I believe both boats and RV's play around with those numbers, and they are so important to know the truth especially when you are pulling that BIG box down a highway or under an overpass.

The pin on mine has been moved forword by the old guy that I bought it from. If I slid it back, It would be close to your length also. He was towing with a short bed truck??? I guess thats why he would move it out.

I know exactly how to decipher the length of your Monty. And this 'code' is dead accurate. Grab your 50' tape measure......
