High Country VS Montana

We currently own a Bighorn 3055RL and are considering a new floor plan with the mid bunk room. Since we are not familiar with Keystone products our question is this? What is the difference between High Country and Montana and does anyone have; 3950BR Montana or the 370BR High Country. As we have not seen either one we are wondering if anyone currently has one, if so do they like it and would they purchase it again. We have also looked at the Cedar Creek Silverback and like their floor plan and amenities.

we just got a 3950 BR in December, Saw it at the Hersey PA show and Loved it. There were a few manufactures with it, Grand Designs, Coachmen, Hartland, along with Montana. I believe there were 8 total with that plan we looked at. After being there for 3 days, we narrowed to the Solitude, Montana, and Hartland. All were around the same price point, all had pluses an minuses. Ultimately, we wanted the Montana, it gave us the most well rounded unit for the money, and having a Montana before, we knew we liked it ( although we had a grand designs at that time, so the solitude was a very close second. The kids love the loft for them, and we were finally able to get back into a unit that was good for the kids too, without the traditional bunks in the rear. I believe the High Country is just supposed to be a lighter unit. We also looked at those out there, the fit and finish of the Montana in my opinion is a lot better.
We are looking forward to our first trip with it next month

High Country's are nice mid level 5er's but compared to the Montana Legacy or non Legacy option line there is a big difference like 12in frames , 6 point auto level(awesome!) ,better insulation, way better TV's and Sound systems, real wood (cherry)on mine,Mor-Ryde 4100 suspension and Mor-ryde pin box 7K axles, nice rear cap on the Legacy option,Fantastic fans thruuout, and the list goes on ,if you are not a Fulltimer a High Country is a great unit with the best bang for the buck that can be hauled by a 3/4 ton truck but for us Fulltimer Folks or extended stay people The Montana Legacy or (non Legacy) is the way to go but they are heavy and need a 1 ton truck to haul them,If I was not a fulltimer I would buy one in a heartbeat

IMO and it is not worth much the High Country is the best bang for the buck in the Montana line.

Couple other things that are different if I remember correctly is the slide outs are all cable operated. No hydraulic slides on the High Country. You can get an Auto Level Up system on them but I think it was also electric and only four jacks. On the other hand my wife hates the window trim/valances on our 2016 3160 Montana and she liked the ones in the High Country. Not sure if you get the MDS black out shades or not. Biggest thing is it is lighter and called Helium Package or something like that. I opted for the bigger frame and the better axles/suspension. Good luck and happy camping in your new unit.

Eliminating the hydraulics removes a lot of weight and dropping the weight is what the High Country is all about.

The two campers are built for two different customers. The Montana for full or long timers. The HC for someone travels a month or so at the time. The Montana has a 12 inch frame it needs that as heavy as it is the HC weighing a ton or more less can use a 10 inch frame. The Montana slides are hydraulic with the bed room cable slide. The HC has all cable slides. Which is better? I think neither. They both have advantages. The Montana slides are very smooth. They are reliable and heavy. The HC saves 500 pounds with cable slides. If my HC cable breaks I can fix it in 30 minutes. I have made a repair kit to replace the cables. Any member here that needs one I will send it to you at no cost to replace a cable on a HC or your bedroom slide on your Montana.
The HCs are designed to be pulled with a 3/4 ton truck.

The information given above by others is pretty much accurate, it's basically designed to be a lighter unit. We went looking for a classic Montana, but could not find any with a floor plan we liked as well as our 305RL, that was as short as a 305RL (had to get it in a garage). The classic Montanas seem to run a little longer than the HCs.
Also, some of the longer HCs do have a 6 point leveling system. It depends on their weight and length. One other difference is the ducted A/C - it is not available in some of the HCs, but is in others.
The 2015 model HC is a wide body - 8'6", but I think they have gone back to 8' for the 2016 models.

I never really knew that Montana luxury was geared towards full timers, I thought it was just a higher end camper .. We are not full timers at all, but I loved the one we had before, and I am glad we got one again. I liked the high country, but in the end, the Montana just had the features that I wanted and the price difference, at least what I was paying, was not that big a difference at all.

Good luck, both are nice and you will enjoy for sure.

Don't have that model but we just purchased a HC 362rd and so far so good. Did upgrade to the G614 tires. Going to upgrade the pinbox also. No complaints at all.

Bama I am curious on the leveling system. In 2015 they only had 4 point electric leveling, at least in all the models that I looked at. Is the 6 point something they added in 16 and is it electric or hydraulic? I will say that in my opinion I would be much happier with a wide body than an eight foot style unit. Maybe than my opposing slides would not have the carpet issues and the bedroom slide would not have the bed running into the dresser.

I really liked the 39 foot Article Fox wide body but did not have the truck to really pull it. I really think that extra 4-6 " really makes a difference.

Got a friend with a SOB 100in wide body and really the only thing I feel the extra 4 inches is in a little wider hallway going up to the bedroom and the basement storage is a little deeper( but my Monty is wider) other than that no difference and no big deal IMO

We are long timers spending 6 t o 9 months a year and 5/7 K miles a year in our Montana. We would have no problem at all with a HC.We got a real good look at them at the fall rally. As far as any RV being acceptable for full timing IMO it is marketing BS.

I have HC and have not spent a lot of time in it. I got it from a buddy who used it three times and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I plan on spending many months in it when I retire in a couple of years. I like it but guess time will tell. One thing I don't like is the air conditioner just doesn't cut it. I will be installing one in the bedroom. Not as experienced as many here but for the money I think the HC will be fine. Always see other things I wish they would of or should have done. Until I win the lottery and have one built with my plans this will do.

We've had a 2013 High Country 343RL since 2013, It's the biggest HC made. We've added a Moryde pin box, Level-up 6-point leveling system, slide toppers, a second air conditioner, better stereo speakers, better fireplace, better rocker/recliners, solar panels, automatic satellite dish, Cummins 6500 watt propane generator, and a host of little doodads that have made this the best unit we've ever owned. We also went to LT tires, and since we did, we haven't had a lick of tire problems - heck we don't use the tire pressure monitoring system anymore they're that good.

Yeah a pull with a 2015 F-350 dually platinum edition, but I only wanted the best, for what I plan on being my last RV and truck I ever have to buy.

Oh yeah, this week I'm have disc brakes installed.

Am I missing anything?

The early 2015 models were wide body, 5200 lb axles, 6 lug wheels. The late 2015 models are built pretty much like the 2016 models: 8' wide, 6k axles, 8 lug wheels (110psi). They are also about 13" longer because of the king bed slide. We ordered a 2015 305RL and were expecting what we had looked at, the early version at 33'11". But what we got was the later version at 35'. We are really happy with what we got. The larger axles and wheels and some of the finishes were much better than the early models. What we hate is, they lowered the hutch to the point that the coffee maker barely fits under it. We have to pull it out to add water. Also, they moved the linen closet to behind the toilet instead of next to the medicine cabinet. The ceiling is flat instead of curved also (doesn't make a difference to us). The vanity in the bathroom is laminate instead of solid surface.

I think that unless you are full timers, the HC deserves a strong look. And if you are full timers but unable to pay $70k+ for a rig, the HC deserve a strong look as well. Many people have been full timers for years in $30k fifth wheels, so its not impossible.
