Long thread there. I may read it all this evening. Still nary a word from Tireco or NHTSA. I suspect the reason Tireco wants those tires back is to keep them from being tested. JMHO

My thought is to get a thread on each RV forum (maybe a poll)to really see how many have had problems. I know you'll get a prick or two that will try to screw things up, that's just a fact of life on the internet. I'm with Wayne, I don't think any have been reported NHTSA. Perhaps we can change that.

Boy, you are right about some people over on RV net, I guess that's a good reason to cherish our little Forum here.

Our Montana came with Tacoma's on them. They came from Goshen to Ketelsens in Iowa. When they were installing the grease able bolts on the Monty,I took the tires to my Goodyear dealer[a good friend] and installed new tires on a new unit. I have had no problems with them and at the same time installed the metal valve stems. My understanding is that any tire caring more them 80 lb's are to have metal stems[fed law?] I realize that what brand of tires is another issue and don't want to start a battle here. I have no faith in Chinese products so this is why I spent the money and got what I feel was the the best. Just my opinion.

I just checked the DOT numbers on our rig. They are OU99 on one and 4YB3 on three others. We have not yet had a problem but a friend pulling a Montana had a blow out on the way to a rally here in Rockport. I have given them the phone number for Tireco. There is nothing left of the tire to even get the DOT number for it. I am going to get them on this forum later today to read this thread.

I must have gotten the ONLY 4 good Missions produced! We drove our Monty about 7000 miles in 2006 followed by Alaska in 2007--probably 10,000 miles for the year. In 2008 we just did a Southwest US Loop over the past 5 weeks for about 3000 miles.
OH--I had to replace the back two tires because somewhere along the way, my rear axle hanger broke and cause excessive wear on the back two tires--inside right (Down to the cord) and outside left. Fortunately I spotted the problem in Alpine, Texas on the way home and got two new tires for the haul to home in San Antonio. I will post the axle repair when I get my Monty back from the dealer after a smaller repair is completed. The axle repair is impressive--the Dexter axel rep in San Antonio installed 2 steel angles between the right and left front axle hanger and between the right and left rear axle hangers. This really beefed up the support on both axles. Total cost was $370 with $280 covered by warranty.

We changed out our Mission tires at @ 12K miles because we travel a lot at interstate speeds and as we have said before we felt that was enough on any OEM tire. We had no problems at all with the Mission tires on the 06 3400. We did change out the OEM valve stems as they were causing a loss of air. From reading threads on other forums there are problems with many brands of OEM tires..mostly made in China. Something is not right but I wonder if there is enough documantation that would indicate that these tires are substandard. They do have to meet DOT spec's. Helen looked at the build date on the tires on our Shinny new 08 truck, built in 07 and noted that the tires were over a year old when the truck was built....Is that right??? We have a 08 truck with 11K miles on it and the tires are over 2 years old!!!!!!!

Although we have reported many Mission tires failures as we do report failures I wonder how many folks have never had a problem??? I am
just a curious person. If there had been a choice we would have ordered better tires on the camper.
Thats crazy ,they can't even put in a decent valve stem. Had the same thing happen to me I was planning a trip this weekend on my new 3400RL (first trip), checked all the tires for pressure next morning yesterday I had a flat sitting in the driveway. changed the valve stem the tire was okay this morning. I guess I better change the other three so I don't have another one go flat just sitting.

I agree with Ozz that it takes little to no effort, except for a phone call, to get your tires replaced by Tireco. Basically just give them the DOT and serial numbers. Our Dot numbers were all 1099, I am not sure what that means. Tireco readily sent out 5 new replacements. Of course they were Chinese made since that is all they handle. We got Milestars, hope they are better since they are 10 ply rather than 8 ply as the old ones were. We thought about it and then put them on with steel valve stems. All the rv websites have owners complaining about the China tires whether they are Nanking, Nanco, Milestar, Mission or Freestar.

Karen, that is the 10th month of 1999, I believe.

Ozz--I will check the DOT numbers when I get the trailer next week. We are in the stick house and the Monty is at the dealer getting some gel-coat work done. By the way, the tires I bought in Alpine, Texas were 10 ply and made in Thailand!

Thanks, Guys and Gals,
I will send this thread to D.O.T. when completed, BUT We need someone to ask Tireco to replace their tires, (on demand) to set president, so all of our MOC members can get new tires without tearing half the sides off their 5th wheel, or experiencing a flat in the middle of nowhere.
If I had Missions, I would do it, someone needs to step up, for the good of the members of MOC......
Thanks, Ozz

up2nogood..IMO it is a good idea to change out the OEM valve stems. The only one we did not change out was the spare(it is still the Mission) and we can not keep air in it so now we have to drop it, take it to the tire guy, replace the stem then put it back up....thanks Keystone..

I do agree on the stems, when we got our new baby, I had all of them changed to the Brass stems.

Thats what the DOT number decoder says. Odd that my rig built in 2006 also had tires made in 1999 on them... If that is the case the tires may be rotted before even leaving Goshen- agreed?

I agree, if that is accurate that 1099 means built in 1999, that means my 2008 Big Sky had tires on it that were built in 1999. Seems strange and I agree they were rotton before they put them on.

Well, I crawled under the rig today. The spare only has DOT 4YB3 on it. No date of manufacture I can find. The other three have 4905, which if I understand the DOT code, would be the 49th week of 2005. Seems I fared better on the age of the tires than some did. I sure don't understand the other two not having a date though.

These dates are revealing, pretty bad cards we are being dealt, I imagine there were many tires that had to be used up, because of the pending change to another brand.
SOMEONE NEEDS to call Victoria and ask for new tires... This way we can spread the word to all members that this is the needed course of action.

No more blisters and blowouts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ozz, I just checked the DOT code for my tires, the four mounted tires have a DOT code of, 3 listed 0U99 and the other 0099. I didn’t crawl under the Monty; I’m not even sure I could get my head under the tire and be able to read the code anyhow, so I don’t know the code on the spare. My question is should call Keystone first or Tirco? My unit is an ’07, 3400, I can’t belive the tires were manufactured in 1999! Please just tell me who to contact. This really upsets me.
