North American Fall Rally - Light-hearted Book Club

North America Fall Rally Light-Hearted Book Club

Almost 90% of RVers are readers, according to a 2022 RVtravel.com poll. So what better place to read and discuss a good book together than at the Montana Owners Club North American Fall Rally?

At the book club meeting we will discuss The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal. The book is, according to Goodreads, “A novel of family, Midwestern values, hard work, fate and the secrets of making a world-class beer.
“Two sisters, one farm. A family is split when their father leaves their shared inheritance entirely to Helen, his younger daughter. Despite baking award-winning pies at the local nursing home, her older sister, Edith, struggles to make what most people would call a living…
“With the proceeds from the farm, Helen builds one of the most successful light breweries in the country, and makes their company motto ubiquitous: "Drink lots. It's Blotz." Where Edith has a heart as big as Minnesota, Helen's is as rigid as a steel keg. Yet one day, Helen will find she needs some help herself…
“Here we meet a cast of lovable, funny, quintessentially American characters eager to make their mark in a world that's often stacked against them. In this deeply affecting family saga, resolution can take generations, but when it finally comes, we're surprised, moved, and delighted.”

The book is available in a Kindle edition and as an Audible audiobook, as well as in hardcover and paperback editions, both new and used. So pick it up in your preferred format, read it, and come together at the Rally to discuss it and otherwise talk books with other RV readers. We’lll make sure to leave time for everyone’s recommendations for future reads!

I have been an avid reader all my life and a book club facilitator for several years. I am a retired literature teacher and school librarian. I and my husband Neil are the proud owners of a 2022 Montana 3231 on our second long-term RV journey. This is our second Fall Rally. Sign up below and I hope to see you at the book club! Gail

Need someone to coordinate/facilitate this activity.

Unfortunately, Gail and Neil are now not able to attend the Rally this year.

Is there someone else attending that would like to coordinate/facilitate this session for the group? If we do not get anyone that is interested, we may have to cancel this as a session.

Thanks.

Hi Everyone in the book discussion! My book is on its way from Amazon and will get started this week. I think our group could meet at a nice spot on the fairgrounds and perhaps try a lager beer to really get into the experience while we review questions. Seriously though, when the leadership has decided upon which date and time for our get-together, let's all BYOD and a snack to share!

Hello!

I’m a sweet girl. I’ll give the Authentic Snickers Salad a try! I didn’t even know it was a thing.

Do you have a recipe for it? Or else I’ll go looking.

Looking forward to getting together.

How’s everyone doing with the book?

See you soon.

Hi Book Lovers! I am almost done reading and am looking forward to meeting you. It's not too late to join if you are looking for lighthearted discussions, an adult beverage of your choice, and book-themed snacks.

I am not a beer drinker. Just can't do it. :-)
So I will bring crème soda to drink or maybe a Shirley Temple since they are both in the book. I could bring enough for anyone else who wants some. I just need to know how many.
I am a pie maker, I know how busy we will be, so I doubt there would be time to bake a pie. I guess I could buy a pie if you want more dessert. I was also concerned about the peanut butter cookies and having time to make them.
I read the sausage dip recipe and it says to make right before serving and not refrigerate. I have no idea if there will be time to make this right before the book club meets. So I don't want to say I will make this.

Pretzels are mentioned throughout the book. I could bring pretzels and the drinks. Please let me know your thoughts.

I was also going to say that you would not want me mixing Brandy Old Fashions for everyone. I could drink one, but I am not a bartender 😂

No problems with pretzels or anything you wish to contribute and you can bring any kind of drink you prefer! I hope to have time to do the suggested foods, if not I will run to the store. We won't go hungry I should be finished with the book by this weekend. See you all soon!
