Hitch lubricant disks.
Just got a new to me 2010 Montana. Moved up from a bumper hitch. Just wondering who out there uses the disks on your pin box instead of grease. I bought the 12in model but haven't pulled with it yet. Seems like a really good idea. Not having the grease mess on my hitch when not towing seems like a big plus. Any pros or cons would be appreciated.

I've been using them for 15 years, they work great. I just use a little grease on the king pin and the jaws.

Been using them for over 30 years. You don't want to be dealing with grease all the time which you will get on to yourself..

Used one since my first fiver. You should lube the pin OD on the pin box itself although.

We used one until we bought our Pullrite hitch, now we have no use for one.

Have always used one! You still need to use a little grease in the pin & W-40 on the other moving parts.

I think there are far more of us that use them than not. I guess they can wear out. But mine has over 20,000 miles on it and still looks good.

Thanks everyone. I thought these were the ticket. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll keep the grease gun and the wd40 for the other moving parts. Happy camping.

What Brand hitch? Pullrite says not to use discs.

I prefer the white disc for the visual contrast for unhitching.

White lube plate. Still lightly grease the hitch jaw.

Way back before the Teflon lube plates, I used grease as that's what it was. You can't imagine how easily that grease could 'jump' from the hitch to your pants even when you were nowhere close.
A bit of silicone spray on the lube plate or hitch face wont hurt but is not necessary.
A spare lube plate might be considered too. I have a 'history' of snagging the edge while hooking up as I imagine others will as well

I don't use any grease on my kingpin and never have and don't see any abnormal wear. That sort of the defeats the use of a disk.
I do lubricate the springs and slide mechanism on my Hijacker hitch for the ease of unhooking.

May depend on the model such as the slider. Or maybe things have changed. I used a disk on my previous Pullrite Super 5th (non slider) with no problem. But that hitch was bought in 2007 and left in my previous truck. Use one on my current Reese Elite also.

The Pullrite slider is different as far as lube goes. With the Pullrite you have to use a capture plate and can not use a disk. I believe all other hitches can use a disk.

Many years ago we Camped in Florida I always use a spray of Silicon on the disk.some sand adhered to the lube on the disk was like using sandpaper on the disc so be sure to wipe the disc and then a spray with silicone.Never happened again since

The disk is used between the upper and lower 5th wheel plates,NOT the kingpin, although it does go over the kingpin to adhere to the upper 5th wheel plate on the coach. The disk only eliminates using grease on the 5th wheel,NOT the kingpin.

Never used anything else, over 10 years now. On my second one, they seem to last forever.
