Basement Tie down advise
I’d like to install D rings, screw eyes, etc to the aluminum framing in the basement of our 3931FB. I plan to use them to hold hoses, electrical cables, fishing poles and secure our outdoor table and chairs. What have others done? I’m looking for ideas as well as the soundness of drilling into the support framing. Thanks

This project is in process - bought aluminum shallow Unistrut and secured it to the frame in ceiling of basement. Will be attaching PVC on struct to hold items like: Flag pole, rakes, fishing poles. Will also be attacked vertical material to act like bookends.

It would be great to see pictures of your project when you have it completed. I was thinking of something like this.

I bought some SS D Rings from Home Depot and used self tapping screws to mount them in the basement on the curb side. I also purchased some velcro straps with carabiner hooks and use them to hand hoses, extension cords, the RG-6 cable for satellite, etc. The work well. Rig is in storage or I could send pics. The are attached to the bottom of the aluminum stringers in the ceiling of the basement. I mounted 2 closer to the front and 2 closer to the rear of the basement, as I use 2 plastic totes with lids to hold most of our hookup stuff like and sewer connections, extra parts, etc.

Thanks for the ideas. Pics would be great. I picked up D rings from HF. I was planning to use bungee cords to hold fishing poles and brooms. Was going to use a ratchet tie down to hold the table, etc. Didn’t know what to use for hoses and cables.

How are you attaching the unistrut to the frame? Self tapping screws?

Here is the strap I purchased at Home Depot:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Keeper-O...5268/207118285
These are similar to the D Rings I purchased but I'm fairly certain mine are stainless steel:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Keeper-1...9311/205510053
I won't be able to post pics in the basement for about a week since I don't have access to the rig right now. Basically, I installed the D-Rings on the bottom of one of the aluminum floor joists in the ceiling of the basement. I put 2 close to the front of the basement and 2 close to the rear so that I could put our 2 rubbermaid totes in between.

Yes. I opted for stainless self tapping screws. Only need 8 since I have 4 of the D-Rings. They are 5/16 hex head and I used my Dewalt impact driver to put them on.

On our HC, I installed a couple hooks similar to these below which have worked well. Never had a hose, wire or rope come off in many thousands of miles. To hang the OEM tools that were just 'dumped' in the basement, made up loops from some surplus 1" webbing I had(ebay purchase). I also used the webbimg to make up holders for the wash brush and long handle and a broom. To store our several fishing rods, using an adjustable sewer hose carrier that was left over, never used from our last 5er. That carrier is mounted on the basement ceiling. The one I'm using latches closed nicely plus has mounting feet - so it's not the similar Valterra.

I used self tapping screws, also got the Morryde tall cord reel for monster 50a power cord (DW can even use it easily. Looking for cord reel for long hose, short hose is easy enough to coil.

Here is what I used. Now am using a plastic hose holder for the 50Amp cable.

Thanks for the pic. I had the same idea for the holding my chairs and table. Is the screw eye bolted in place or screwed in place?

I attached D rings to the front plywood bulkhead on the door side, about half way up and parallel to the floor. I stand my folding table and chairs upright against the bulkhead and run a bungee to hold in place. Also have the Morryde cord real. If you only do one thing, get the cord real.

I used Brackets/hooks similar to what Dave W used except my bracket/hooks were square and I flattened the end with the cap on it and drilled holes in it where I flattened it. I then mounted it to the floor joist/ceiling supports in the basement with self-tapping screws and slid a piece of plywood across the six brackets/hooks and added short bolts to the plywood/brackets with locknuts and washers on them. I store our chairs in this shelf and also several other items like the flagpole and other such items. I've taken the bracket/hooks and attached them to the carpeted walls of the basement to hang hoses and other items with nothing falling off while traveling. I used self-tapping screws to mount these also but was careful not to puncture anything on the other side of the wall.

Hi,
I was told to avoid reducing the load capacity of a beam, like those supporting the floor above the cargo area, only drill holes in the neutral zone. This zone can be represented by a line drawn along the beam, halfway up or down the height of the beam. For example, a 2" high beam will have a neutral zone 1" from bottom of the beam, all the way across the beam.
