9100 Power Awning problems

Hello Group. My 9100 power awning has a couple of issues. This is the awning on the patio side.

When extending, it will sometimes move out about 6-10 inches from the stored position and then reverse and roll back up about a 1/2 rotation all while holding the switch in the extend position. Hit the switch again and it will extend properly.

When retracting, you sometimes, have to help it in by pushing on the arms. It will make a clicking sound like a clutch slipping? When it reaches the side of the coach it will either make the clicking sound or the solid rolled up sound.

My '14 has a awning made 3/07/13 and fell under the recall that required the motor to be replaced. I was told the recall was done at the factory before I purchased the trailer, and has worked properly for the last couple of years.

So, is the motor in need of lubing? or such, or just replace the motor. I am seeing the motor part number has changed 4 times and is now 3310423.209B. A $300 fix?

Thanks Jim

Haven't had any motor issues on mine yet and am a year older than you. If you have to help it, you certainly have an issue. Trust you have the adjustable pitch knobs loose. John

You wouldn't have some tree sap on the fabric that may be causing the roll to reverse when extending, and then maybe break free when trying again?

Bob, interesting thought. I need to check that, but don't think so. The clicking while trying to roll up is like a clutch popping sound and when fully rolled up, it used to make a stalled motor sound and now makes a clicking sound. Going to call Dometic Monday, but think I know how that will end. It only makes the clicking sound on retract. On extend, normal sound only.

I can not find any servicable parts for the motor. You got to buy the assy.

Jim

You know that even though the awning is electric there is a wind up spring in end of awning opposite motor. Spring broken?

Update, awning motor replaced under recall 5/13 prior to purchase. Original motors had a shaft that inserted into the motors and it would become detached thus allowing awning to unroll.

The recall replacement motor was a 3310423.137B. That motor was also a problem and in 4/16 Dometic changed motor supplier and the new replacement motor is now 3310423.209B.

Called Dometic, asked for some consideration. They offered free freight on a new motor they priced to me @ $495. Bought new motor from RV Parts for $288 plus $10 freight.

Presently awaiting new motor and will have local mobile service guy install it.

Jim

OK, guys, Got new motor. sub #209B. New motor does not look anything like old motor. Other than it fits.

Old motor that was used in the recall is made in France and the new one indicates it is made in LaGrange, In. The France motor is a alum tube with a small motor driving 4 gear sets that are plastic and the end of the gear set is plastic with a plastic hub that fits into the awning tube.

It draws 1.75A and has some sort of ckt. board and the motor and gear set is a press fit into the tube.

The new motor has a larger outer diameter and feels a bit heavier. The old motor has a 12 RPM gear set so the awning unrolls @ 12 RPM. The new motor has a 24 RPM and the awning unrolls twice as fast.

The problem is/was the plastic gears were "stripping" on the roll up motion. The shocks push the awning out and the motor and spring try and roll the awning up.

So, $300 for a motor and $85 for a mobile RV Service to install, $385 and it is working.

As normal, Dometic says no help, but they changed the part number and supplier of the recalled motor, so they know/knew the new motor was a issue.

Hey all! My 2014 3402rl Dometic 9100 awning motor bit the dust after 4 years. But I cannot find a part number anywhere to order a replacement motor. Any help?

Too fast awning

I have the opposite problem. We have a 2019 Montana and the awning comes out so fast, it has started coming loose from the rig. How can I slow it down?
