Assume this is a canadian thing and you would have to contact keystone or the dealer where purchased. John

Hi Rich and Helen
It's actually a American type thing we purchased the fifth wheel in Arizona and it's the certificate they give you at the dealer when yo u purchase a RV and it comes from the factory . We tried the dealer in Arizona and the the Keystone Factory Rep and were told that Iit can not be replaced after 90 days from the purchase date . You need need it to register vehicle the USA
Thanx

We looked in our 3402 purchase folder from our dealer and yes we do have a "Certificate of Origin for a vehicle" this is our 2nd Montana and our 6th Rv . we never knew we had that certificate and we have never had to use it to register the RV in the State of Ohio. Our dealer took care of the registration /temp plates for the RV. Perhaps this is something new.
But wait you are a Canadian. Do you need this to register the RV in Canada
Note I asked MOC Member Darmar a fellow Canadian to get hold of you.

I guess the reason we never knew about the certificate is that our dealers took care of the initial registration.

If the unit has never been registered in any state, and never financed in the US, I would call Keystone directly, there must be a process to replace the CoO.

Our dealer sent ours along with the purchase agreement. Go back and look at your purchase papers, it may be stapled to them. If you purchased it in the same state you reside, the dealer may have sent it in for you. The name is actually Manufacturer Statement of Origin (MSO).

By the way, the MSO is used to get your Title. So, if you got a title, you won't have the MSO. If you have a lien, the MSO was used by the DMV to Title the Montana. I guess simply, if you have had plates, you won't have your MSO any longer.

That's how it is with us. The dealer took care of it and we never even realized such a thing existed.

Since my 3402 was an out of state purchase, I took the MCO (Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin) and bill of sale to the DMV in NC to get it titled and registered and pick up my plates. If I sell it I just sign over the title; no MCO needed after initial titling.

Sorry we have been busy and came late to this conversation but we have ours, it came with each Montana (it's original) and we treat it like our bill of sale.
It's always with the documents from the dealer that we take when registering but of course get all original docs back.
Interesting though why the dealer can't reproduce one even at a cost. The record has to exist with Keystone as well.
Doesn't everyone need it to register their unit?

in North Carolina you have to have it titled and registered to get a plate and you have to have the property taxes paid to get the plate renewed each year

Certificate of Origin is required in Canada. Got it from the dealer when we bought our unit in 2007. Needed it to register the Montana. If I remember correctly, I think it has something to do with NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement). This allows our government to determine how much, if any, duty is paid on an imported item.

Interesting problem..
How did you get the Montana from AZ were you purchased it to Canada?
Do you know for sure that you had the certificate?
Must have been some kind of plates on it to drive it to Canada.
Did the dealer maybe use the certificate to put AZ temp tags on it....
It most of our cases the dealer registered the Montana as part of the purchase deal with temp tags or transfer of your State tag so many like myself never know we had the certificate. I have got my certificate but I had now decided that it IS a copy so my purchasing dealer did indeed use it to register the Montana.

We bought our used rig in AZ and imported it into Canada.
AZ DMV sold us $15 90 day temp tags for the transit. One for truck, one for trailer. We showed them the bill of sale and the CoO. They were most interested in the $$. What we bought had Alaska tags, and registration, if anyone is wondering.
Had to stop at the US side of the border to export the vehicle, and they either took the CoO, or just wanted to see it. (Plus you have to fax them a bunch a stuff 3 days before you cross, or you cant export it that day) cant recall for sure if they took the form.
Then you cross into Canada, and the Canadian border folks fill out the import form, and if the Americans didnt take it, this is when the CoO is surrendered.
Dont mix up this document the vehicle registration, they are not the same. In Canada, we never see a CoO.
Then you pay a bunch of money - 2 taxes (PST and GST) inspections by 'Registar of Imported Vehicles' , registration, plates, and insurance.

sapest: I don't know if you have been asked by either the American border service or the Canadian Border Service for the Certificate of Origin or why you are needing one.
You are mistaken about Canadians never seeing the Certificate, I have a copy of the one for my Montana. This document has "nothing" to do with the end user, it is a document that certifies that Keystone RV is the owner of the RV and is transferring it to the dealer or distributor whatever the case may be. It has nothing to do with licensing but contains the following information for identification purposes for the transfer. Date of transfer, Invoice number, Vehicle VIN number, Make, Body Type, Shipping weight, GVWR and lastly the Series or Model.
The document shows the name of the Dealer/distributor and their address and is signed by an authorized representative of Keystone RV.
The dealer does not have to give you a copy of the document, mine did because I requested it, however it is simply a transfer of ownership of the RV from Keystone to the Dealer. Nothing to do with the end purchaser really.
If the RV was licensed in Alaska or wherever then the transfer to a new owner involves that paperwork, not the Certificate. How hard is it to go outside and check the VIN # against registration papers.
I am sorry but I don't see why it is needed whatsoever.
