hot travel ?

Heading down to Florida next week and with this 3400 have never traveled long distances in high heat. My question is do any of you with those type of travels leave any windows open or any suggestions on keeping it below 100 degrees in there while on the road? I don't have a generator. The roof vents do face toward the rear but I have never traveled with them open.

Not much you can do. Leaving windows open slightly while traveling will bring in quite a bit of road dirt. Best thing you can do when you get to your site is turn on the Fantastic Vent Fan immediately even before unhitching and getting set up. Leave it on initially during your cool down with the air conditioner on max and the dump opened, meaning not using the duct system for the first half hour or so. The fan helps considerably to pull the hot air out while the air unit is dumping cold air downward. That's our drill in the hot Florida weather.

We always run with the top vent and the side couch window open. We have covers for the top vents and a cover for the side window which prevents rain form coming in. All shades are drawn to eliminate the sun shinning in as well. The unit is much cooler inside than out when we set up. We also use the refelective material in the windows to help reflect the suns heat.

I have a new 3580RL BIG SKY, At this point only have the one AC in the living room. Have not had to use the AC on a trip yet but did not seem to get a lot of cold air out of the vents when stocking the trailer. Have to study the instructions on the wall control that looks to be a little complicated. How do you open the air conditioner dump? Any secrets to using the wall control to get max cooling?

Do you have 1 or 2 A/C units? I live in the Dallas area and with just a single A/C unit it is difficult to really cool off our 3400 (At the house I only have 30amp and can only run 1 A/C unit) when temps are in the upper 90s.

Going down the road we do keep the overhead vents open. We have MaxAir covers on all the roof vents.

As already mentioned if it is really hot we just let the air dump instead of using the ducts for initial cool down. Another item that helps is we carry a box fan. Last Summer we had friends talk us in to going to the lake over a weekend when the afternoon highs were in the low 100s. It took close to 1 hour for both airs to get the temp in to the mid/upper 80s. The thermostat was set for 70. The A/Cs would only start to cycle after midnight and by mid morning would stop cycling.

Maximo - There is a slider on the bottom of the air conditioner (Dometic), just slide the bottom vent open and all the air will be directed downward and not through the vents.
