Considering going to Vegas

As a lifelong hunter and shooter going to the SCI Convention in Las Vegas is on my bucket list. We are considering going this year-it is held in late January. I am in San Antonio, Texas. Any recommendations on campgrounds in Vegas would be appreciated. I am sure we would stay a week or more to take in the local sights. We are appreciated fine restaurants but are not big in to the casinos or shows. We will be traveling with our English Cocker and our cat. Any advice on what route to take and campgrounds along the way would also be much appreciated. We try not to travel more than six hours (or less) per day. TIA.

We like staying at Oasis RV Park, right across I-15 from the Bass Pro Store.

We alway attend the SCI show and will be there once again this year. We stay out at Sam’s Town it’s a KOA if that’s where you decide to stay looks us up. Just let me know and I’ll give you my space number when we get there. If not then look me up at the show. It’s a great time. We have made many friends that exhibit at the show from past trips to S. Africa can’t wait to see them and plan our next safari for 2018.

Sams town is nice, and 15-20 minutes away from the strip , We have stayed on the strip several times at the KOA adjacent to Circus Circus, but it is a gigantic asphalt parking lot.

Sam’s Town took over the KOA Campgrounds from Circus Circus about 2 years ago. Circus Circus still has camping but it’s much less than it used to be. Not very nice. Like said before just a big parking lot. Sams Town is off the strip but very easy to get to convention center and back takes about 15 minutes each way.

If you have military credentials, try Desert Eagle. That's the FamCamp for the Air Force base there.

I am following this thread closely. We have visited Vegas several times but never pulled a camper. Now that we have the nice new unit that may change.

Another suggestion that will work for the gun enthusiast, although a ways out from town is the Clark County Shooting Complex. We've stayed there a couple of times, not fancy, but well maintained, and they have 80 spaces with full hookups. The price is $20 per day, 14 day limit.

The Oasis RV Resort is great we really like it and it is convenient to access the strip. If you look for a parking spot on the strip stop at the Excalaber and park behind it for free. They have both a open parking lot and a covered garage that there is no charge to park at.

That looks like fun! I shoot pistol, rifle and shotgun.

We've been to Vegas many times and have stayed several different places. We think the Oasis is the nicest but it can be a bit noisy since it's so close to the freeway. We usually stay at Sam's Town though, because it isn't as pricey as Oasis. It is well maintained and a walkable distance to the casino and restaurants.

Outside of Vegas about 60 miles is a beautiful place called Valley of Fire State Park. They have camping there with full hook ups but they don't take reservations. If you don't stay there you at least need to go see it! Sunrise and sunset are particularly beautiful in the red rocks of the valley. It is spectacular!

Oasis. It is right next to Las Vegas Blvd and I-15. Much nicer (safer) part of town than Sam's Town.

Wow much nicer safer than sams town Really!!! Oh well everyone has there own experiences. Been going to Vegas every year for the last 15 years and never once have we had a bad experience while stay at any of these places. We prefer Sams because we like the small quiet casino atmosphere good food nice cinema and easy to get in and out of the busy strip. But never once have we had trouble in this area. Staff has alway been right on top of what ever comes up. I can only speak for myself so to each there own. I don’t think twice about staying there.
