Subscriptions - Can't Get Immediate Email?

I subscribed to a Forum. I wanted to get an immediate email when a new topic/thread or post arrived. Yet the only choices available to me are: No Email Notification; Daily Updates by Email; or Weekly Updates by Email. Missing is the Instant Email Option. Is this because I have my Profile for "Default Subscription Mode"set to "Do Not Subscribe"? Have I set something incorrectly?

Or???

I don't want to Subscribe to everything, but when there is something of interest to me, I would like an Immediate Email.

If I subscribe to an existing Thread/Topic the "Instant Notification by Email" option is available. Why not when subscribing to a Forum

You will need to set your Default Thread Subscription Mode to Instant notification.

You can then remove any unwanted subscriptions via your subscription list in your user cp here: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ewsubscription
to control unwanted notices.

I guess I didn't make my question clear. I would like to Subscribe to a Forum, such as North America MOC / Western Region, and receive an instant email whenever a NEW Thread is posted there,
As I understand it, setting the
Default Thread Subscription Mode to Instant notification only applies:
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.
My intent is different. I want to see all new Threads/Posts when they occur in a particular sub-Forum and not after I have found them and replied.

Is it safe to assume this is beyond the capabilities of the software?

Well... yes and no.

You can subscribe to a forum using the 'Forum tools" drop down menu that is at the top of a list of threads in a specific forum but there are limits to the sorts of notifications you would get. You would still need to set your notification preferences to receive e-mail and I believe that you only get notices of new threads in the subscribed forum.

Yup I am using Forum Tools and the options are limited to "once a day" (not immediate) email. Not what I was looking for.

Oh well......
