Ford 6.7 Diesel

FYI, early production 2011.
Two weeks ago headed to Delaware Seashore State Park and made it 40 miles. Accelerating up a hill heard a loud thud and then shaking and loss of power, no turbo boost either. Hobbled into a Ford dealer who hooked up the laptop, disabled the fuel system, and performed a compression test. #6 Dead.
Exhaust valve broke, dropped into cylinder, cracked piston, and took out the turbo.
I wanted new engine but Ford refused and repaired it, but did extend the engine warranty to 150000 miles or 7 years. Should give me time to see if it will happen again. If it does I'll be a new owner of a Duramax.
It didn't ruin my vacation as I just hired a transport driver to take my trailer down and back and will give the bill to Ford.
Hope this was an isolated case as there is only 49000 miles on the truck and shouldn't have failed.

I believe it will be an isolated problem. Those new motors have had a good record. My son is an adviser at a ford dealer in the truck shop and he has had very little issues with the new motor

Keep us posted on the outcome as I am very interested in purchasing a new F450 with the diesel! I ask anyone and everyone that I can about problems with it and so far so good, nothing bad said about it! I have a 2001 with the 7.3 and am very reluctant to make the move! She is rusty but trusty with a 190k on it. Many have told me that their 6.0 or their 6.4 were good motors but I know better! I will not be easily convinced! Too much money involved to make a mistake!!!

Wishing you the best of luck with this ordeal.......but,in case you decide to make the switch, the Duramax IS a nice motor.

I have a 2013 6.7 PS Ford and it is perfect. Granted, only 13,000 miles so far but it tows great and does not know what a hill is. Had check engine problem at about 8,000 miles but that turned out to be what Ford calls new engine anomaly. Have not had it recur.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Never fun to have all that worry and issues when you're trying to have fun. Here's hoping that was the end of it.

I had a 6.0 and it was a great engine for me, no problems. On my fourth superduty diesel, and the 6.7 has been super so far.

I have 30k on my 2012 F250 SD 6.7. So far so good. Sad it happened, glad Ford stepped up with extending the warranty. I believe they want the 6.7 to last for a very long time as a flagship motor and want to protect it's reputation.

I am also thinking it will be an isolated problem. I did a lot of reading before I bought my 6.7 and found nothing that would indicate the engine had any problems. Nor have I read anything since. Mine has been perfect so far.
But then again I had two 6.0s that I had virtually no problem with either.

I live by adage: If something can happen, IT will happen to me!
Anyone else have more than 50000 miles on a 6.7? Any problems?
Up to this point it has been, as others have mentioned, a great truck. I'm going to keep it since they extended the warranty to seven years, unless it fails again and they will not replace the complete engine.

I really have to ask this question.. Dont get me wrong, i love the looks of the ford and the creature comforts... But looking at the engine that is put in the f650 or f750? got to think, engine wise, dodge must be ahead.

Not sure of the facts, maybe someone can find out, but a mechanic at the Ford dealer told me that Ford actually owns a controlling interest in Cummings (the engines that are put in the f650 and f750) but are forbidden to use them in any of the lighter trucks as a condition of the deal. I thought maybe because Dodge uses them in the light duty trucks.
Certainly someone on this forum can confirm or refute this statement.
The challenge has been issued.

I feel obligated to post this to be fair to Ford. I had to hire a transport driver when my truck failed to pull my trailer to my vacation destination and back. This cost me almost $800.00. Ford paid the entire amount under the Roadside Assistance Program. They also repaired my truck in less than a week. I'm a happy customer, for now.

Sometimes you look after the bottom line best by not looking at the bottom line, no you always look after the bottom line best by not looking at the bottom line.
Ford does NOT own Cummings, never did.

Annddddd.. Dodge has more than their share of issues as well. Hard to get owners to admit to it tho. Who wants to cuss openly after spending all that money. I have a Chev now.. but, LOVE the SD's and had one before this one.. Just got a deal too good to pass up when I got this latest truck.

I had a 2006 F-250 crewcab short bed 4x4 diesel that sucked it turbos at 66K miles. Even with a "premier" extended warranty it cost me a pretty penny to repair and even more when I traded it in 2012.

We looked at Chevy, Dodge, and Ford because I wasn't too happy with Ford at the time. But for us, the Ford was the best solution. It just turned 15,000K miles a day ago on our "Monte's 1st Big Adventure", and has been working flawlessly. I've averaged 12.5 mpg towing the biggest Montana High Country made - much better than the 10.2 I got with the previous F-250 pulling a smaller bumper-pull trailer. That's a 20% increase. Makes me a happy camper!

We have had every brand as we are not brand loyal. Living in Ford Country with the Ford friends and Family plan we have had three Ford Trucks and had no issues with any of them. This 08 is a beast. We rode in a new 6.7 at the Mid Atlantic rally and could not hear the Diesel motor. I like GM and Dodge also but don't know anyone who works for them to get the discounts.
