I guess anything can happen. For the life of me I can't see any reason why one would back past 90 degrees. I guess an emergency/wreck could cause a jackknife but then the slider would be irrelevant. Jim

....that's what he said... the guy at Fort Pickens...
it was after dark and his spotter (spouse) did an excellent job of getting him aligned with the parking pad,. when she said "come on back', he thought... all was well, and he did not realize the trailer was already about 90 deg. to the truck.

So another way to think about it is that a slider in a 6.5' bed, gives you only four inches less cab to trailer clearance than a LWB truck. This is based on a Super-Glide's 14 inch rearward movement as it approaches the 90 deg position. To me, an auto-slider makes the SWB truck an even more ideal tow vehicle. You get almost the clearance of an eight foot bed, with a SWB-6.5' bed.

I have a 2011 3500 shortbed longhorn DRW with a BD3 and pull my 2011 3400rl with no problem. I do not have a slider because of how the nose of the 3400 is built. I have no problem with backing and I have to put my monty away in a very tight spot...good luck!

My nieghbor has a 2012 3400rl and tows with a ford f350 Short bed he has NEVER had a problem not having a slider hitch, on the newer Montana's with Max turn tech it is not needed just ask anybody who does it with a newer Montana and a shortbed and they will tell you the same thing, but what the heck it is your cash your call

Normally you don't need the slider. BUT sometimes... I turned into a state campground in California near June Lake because I missed the turn off for the RV park. I thought 'state campground - no problem'. Wellll. It was about 100 yds along the lake to a cul de sac that was very small. I am pretty sure I was at 90 degrees to get out of there. I was just glad I didn't have to back up the 100 yds and then up a steep slope onto a county highway with no visibility!!!
