As good as the “flashing your head lights” one.

This one is as good as the “flashing your head lights” one.

At 60 mph can you stop your TV and trailer in 5 seconds including the “reaction” time to get your foot on the brake and the “brake delay time” for electric brakes?

The state of Florida allows counties and city’s to install red light cameras.

The state of Florida allows the yellow light to be set at 5 sec.

If a red light camera captures you crossing the stop line regardless of the reason you will receive a Notice of Violation.

You may contact the police department of the entity that issued the NOV. If you claim exemption under the Uniform Traffic code section 316.074 you will be threatened with having to go before a judge to discuss it and the fine will be $500 plus court cost of $500 and here is the real kicker this is a quote” the judge will side with me.” So now you have a good look at “JUSTIC” Florida style.

So you have some options (so you think). You can just pay the NOV $162 and continue on your way and continue paying them every time you wind up with your front wheels in the cross walk or you can slow when you see the green light has been on for a long time.

Well now the Florida legislature has decided to correct the problem of you being able to slow down to avoid the NOV by proposing to also pass a rule that provides for the same type of NOV for traffic traveling to slow!

Maybe you should rethink coming to Florida in the winter when you can enjoy the same comfort in Alabama or Texas. I know as soon as I sell my real estate interest in Florida I will be thinking real hard about ever coming back here.

I thought most of the areas in Florida were doing away with the red light cameras because they were unconstitutional.

I can't imagine them spending that much on cameras. I drive less than the speed limit in congested areas, but not slow and have never had to pass anyone in Florida. Usually they are flying past me.

Our newly elected mayor here in Colorado Springs got rid of the "revenue generators" aka red light cameras. They were politically unpopular and it was determined that the presence of a single police officer generated as much or more revenue with the added benefit of being able to respond more quickly to real emergencies when strategically deployed throughout the city. I love Colorado!

Not really the way it works. Here in Texas if you get your picture takin there is also the movie version. The flash gets your plate number but there is also, I think it was 8 seconds, of tape where someone reviews it to see if you really just rolled thru the light or if you turned right on red or something else. We have a couple locations in my area and I have set them off once or twice turning right on red and never got a citation. Not sure what will set it off on the right on red cause have turned many times but never set off the camera.

Here in Fl I go through a Green Yellow and five cars follow Big Problem
Where the camera's are located the speed limit is 35.

Hi

The cameras on hwy 27 just south of I-10 are in a 55 mph zone. Try stopping an 88,000 lb tractor-trailer or your TV and Montana in 5 seconds. Remember that 5 seconds include the reaction tine to get your foot on the brake plus any delay in braking action caused by an air brake system or electric brakes. The electric brake delay depends on brake adjustment the best I have been able to get is ¼ turn of the wheel and when I first jack the trailer it is commonly ½ to ¾ turn. This all amounts to a delay in stop performance.

The cameras are not owned and installed by the government but by a company from out west. It has been published elsewhere that the camera company has donated some substantial sums of money to both political parties.

In Florida the Notice of Violation is not a “citation” and only results in a citation if you don’t pay the $162. If you wish to contest the NOV the procedure is to wait until the Uniform Traffic Citation is issued and comes in the mail.

This is what makes the extortion use by the police so workable.

Now that people have determined that they can avoid a NOV by slowing down some when they notice the green has been on for a period of time (called in CDL driving school a stale green) the state legislature are proposing to pass a “slow Traffic” violation to be enforced the same way.

As you can see this has very little to do with safety and a whole lot to do with generating revenue.

Besides that there now has been some research performed by some of the insurance companies that indicates a substantial increase in rear end collisions at these intersections.

I don’t disagree with the idea of the red light cameras. I do disagree with the way they have been setup and misused for the purpose of generating revenue.

As some one else on the forum mentioned you do see a lot of traffic that violates the intersection after the light turns red. I agree as much as any body else that this is a grave danger to others using the highways.

As a footnote I hear that there is a proposal in the legislature to change the yellow light duration in relation to the speed limit on the highway the traffic light is installed on. We will see how far that goes because that would remove most of my objections to the traffic light cameras.

We have spent the last 7 winters in Florida (Nov thru March, St Petersburg/Maderia Beach), and have never had a single traffic issue. Locals around here are very patient with us Snowbirds, as we bring dollars to the local economy.

I have a sister living in Bradenton. The last time I visited her with the Montana, I decided that Florida is just TOO muggy & buggy. Some Real Estate salesmen have really done a GREAT job of selling a bunch of swamp land with an ocean view.

I personally think we should give it back to the Seminoles and stay in the other 49.

Houston, TX installed them. Then the voters voted them "out." The cameras are there, but not for red light enforcement.

How do you know if you set it off?

In the evening and nite you can't miss the flash.
